Angled flashlight I keep around since it works almost every time.

Never had an air mattress.

Arctic bag I used in Fort Dix... couple of times.

Earplugs were required gear, so always had a set.

Mickey Mouse boots I saw frequently, but never used them. The only cold weather boots I used were the Sorrells

Now,, the one piece of kit I managed to "obtain" and still use the hell out of is the N-3B parka. It's the only jacket I've ever had that I could wear a t-shirt underneath in freezing weather and not get cold. I've got it as my "have to take the dog out when it's cold and need something to pull on" jacket.

Mini Maglight with red filter.

90% of the time it was a poncho and poncho liner for a sleeping bag. I did buy eventually a commercial lightweight bag for when it got really cold.

Always had earplugs but that plastic case was tossed. If it rattled it didn't go into the field.

Had a pair of Danners but only used them a couple times since they weren't very good for the feet on long movements. Used HiTechs in the field during winter.

Before Gore tex and polypro it was field jacket liner under the blouse.

There tends to be more contractors in theater than actual uniformed military. And as another poster pointed out, lot of construction, maintenence and support functions are contracted out.

I have 5 deployments under my belt and only two of them were while I was active duty the other three was as a contractor. And before I get called a baby killer. I was working IT.

The one thing I really wanted at Ft Dix was a mosquito net.

Sooner or later, we’re going to have to go after them.

Not absolutely certain about Iran; but one thing for sure if and when we do go after them, it will be obvious we should have done it years earlier ... same with China. Better to take the hit and be called a bully than lose infinitely more American lives.

Never thought I would of seen the day that the US handed a communist regime the keys to prosperity. Now we are going to try and tame the dragon with trillions in spending and at the same time trade like nothing is happening. Carrot and stick policy is not even an option anymore.

It's an incredible thing; something like how utterly stupid can you get. Right now empty cargo containers have priority on ships headed to China over cargo containers filled with US produce. Apparently the view now is filling and emptying those containers wastes time when an empty can be refilled in China and sent back here more quickly. We were sold out by globalists. A real president would put a total embargo on Chinese goods, but there'd be so much squealing over here. Sooner or later we will have to face up to the damage we've allowed.

But the cost of goods wil be greater! Incidentally, during the tariffs, inflation was like a paltry 1-2%. Absolutely no thought of sacrifice even if it was much higher in reality. And the fact that we are going to spend trillions on defense spending to contain, which in itself takes away monetary resources that benefit the citizen. Utter stupidity.

Yep, and the worst part may be that we funded a modern Chinese military that we will have to upgrade and increase the size of our own military to face. Like the old saying, "You just can't make this stuff up!"

Stay China’s best customer and nothing to worry about.

You want war with China, start an embargo.

Because they will get emboldened with Biden. They will attack us more, threaten our ships more, and even threaten to wipe our country out with nuclear weapons. If they can get a hold of them, and build them the way they want to, don’t be surprised if they use them against us in our country. I don’t put nothing past them. If they can launch 🚀 at our military, and threaten our ships, what other things will they do?

Well first off, we don't need to be over there for them to "attack" or "threaten our ships". As far as the nuclear threat, that doesn't worry me as much as Israel or the US launching a first strike nuke attack. Pakistan, India, Israel and really China and Russia wouldn't necessarily need a nuke war kicking off. MAD still is a deterrent.

We have to be there I think, because of the oil. We can’t let them block off the area where Saudi Arabia brings the oil out. Since Biden has stopped the oil flow here, we have gone back to depending on other countries again. We really were leading the world in gas and oil production. I think if Iran continues to do the things they are doing, something Is going to have to give. Question is, will Biden Threaten them like Trump did? Probably not, and that’s the scariest part right now.

Earlier in the thread another posted assumed all contractors were blackwater.
When did we stop calling mercenaries, mercenaries and start calling them contractors btw? I’m always interested in the evolution of what we call things, especially where the military/war is concerned.

Soldier’s heart = shell shock = war neurosis = combat fatigue = PTSD
