UConn vs South Carolina Pre Game Report

It's not anyone's fault. It's just a reality that women's basketball is not what matters to athletic depts. If it was then UConn would not have been passed over by the ACC for Louisville, Syracuse and Pittsburgh and by the Big Ten for Rutgers and Maryland.

It's not that women's basketball is getting the shaft. It's that they aren't "football" and that's all that matters. Even the UConn men's team, with all their championships, got screwed over by the conference re-alignment.

Going pretty much as I predicted. Not sure anyone will be able to compete with Geno anytime soon.

I like Dawn but I've been less than enthused with the puffing up of South Carolina by ESPN specifically in order to draw ratings for this game. Its not sour grapes--I think they are better than Tennessee but they aren't on UConn's level. I think they are in a solid position as the 3rd #1 seed but behind UConn and Notre Dame.

How often do you get a 1 vs 2 matchup? USC was the last major conference undefeated. Don't blame ESPN for them pulling a no-show....

The biggest surprise in the game was UConn playing man-to-man defense the entire game against South Carolina's bigs. UConn gave up a lot of height and still dominated on the defensive end. Most teams play zone against South Carolina.

Our bigs will be the key to the game down there. If they manage to play good defense and stay in the game without fouling we win. As another poster pointed out, if you shut down the South Carolina post they have no offense (does that sound familiar lol).

He certainly is a great coach but when has he had very little talent? Not since we first played them '95. Nykeshia Sales, Kara Wolters, Sue Bird, Tamika Williams, Swin Cash, Asjia Jones....and that Russian player whose name escapes me - all top ten players signed in the '90s by Geno.

UConn played six players five played over 35 minutes. They all shot the lights out last night. 56 percent shooting by a women's basketball team is fabulous. UConn lost only two categories last night shots attempted 56 to 66 for SC and rebounds 31 to 34 for SC. UConn recruits athletes that are shooters and run a system to get them good shots.
