UF recruiting Woes

I guess y'all are hoping he's not another Ron Zook.

Not sure there's anything on the surface to suggest he's anything like Ron Zook.

Zook - No prior HC experience, demoted as DC under Spurrier to position coach.

McElwain - Turned CSU's program around as HC, won 2 NCs as Bama as their OC.

He wanted to use Muschamp lol

It's hopeless. They see what the want to see.

I think that can be said for all fan bases to some extent. Right now, we're basking in our recent recruiting success hoping that it will translate into wins sooner rather than later. Vandy is trying to spin their atrocious recruiting class into a bunch of diamonds in the rough. You guys made a late run to finish at a respectable 20th. However, I'm sure 20th is not the kind of recruiting success that you're accustomed to.

Agree with all points.

Judging by that post I'm guessing you also don't recall where you left your car keys, what you ate for breakfast this morning, or how those people got inside your TV set. :)

Keys are in the basket on top of the chest of drawers, I had coffee for breakfast.

And the people inside my TV are short and slim. :)

I'll be honest. He did well to save a top 20 class. I didn't think he could pull it off, but I'll give him mad props for bringing it together like he did.

What's Miami's excuse for recruiting allegedly worse than UF? They're in the most fertile and talent rich area in the state.

Five major D-1 programs in the state, three combining for 11 national titles in the past 32 years, plus every major CFB program across the country cherry picking talent.

To listen to some of you, it's as though UF is the only fish in the Sunshine State pond.

The fact that we're pleased over a Top 20 class says more about what Muschamp couldn't accomplish as opposed to what McElwain can potentially accomplish.

Imagine when Miami lands a coach next year.

Just went and checked the ESPN class rankings. FLA got up to 20 I believe, a huge bump based on where McElwein started indeed. And got 2/3 of the 5 stars to boot. That's huge.

I do think we closed the talent gap a bit, however not as much as I thought we would but that is a result of FLA's work not us flubbing the class. This class was awesome for us.

FLA is still freaking loaded with talent also.

As much as I hate it, Florida will have a top 5 class next year.

A couple of years from now we're going to have some really nasty, hard fought games.

It's about time the SEC east is a battle between TN, GA and FL and all three are fighting for the conference championship.

I think, when it comes down to it, McElwain will be out-coached by CBJ. Think Fulmer vs Spurrier in reverse and UGA will continue to stumble their way to 8-4

What exactly do you base this on, other than blind faith?

I have no idea what to expect under McElwain, but CBJ made some glaring coaching mistakes last season...the Missouri game immediately comes to mind.

And for all the criticism of Richt, he's had our collective number recently, with the exception of last season's fluke loss against us.

Exactly.

Jones has all but eliminated the talent issue. If he cant get in the mix with what he is bringing in rather quickly it will be pretty evident he is more like Zook.

McElwain is 2 years behind in that process so he still has some work to do getting players.

The questions about Jones should clear up quicker than McElwain just based off timing. I think UT and UF will be back in control of the east in a couple years and UGA will grow weary of Richt. Valid reasons or not.

And yet the east champ has been Mizzou the last two years. I don't get it either though he's posts up against the tough ones he knows he has to win then blows the ones that should be fairly automatic ? I really don't get with the talent he's had why he hasn't had more success

Injuries in 2013 and an inexplicable loss to UF this past season led to Mizzou winning the East.

Richt's problem is UGA's fan base holds him to the SEC's recent standard, not UGA's historical standard.

UGA went 38 years between its first and second national title. This means they're due in 2018. :)
