UF recruiting Woes

What exactly do you base this on, other than blind faith?

I have no idea what to expect under McElwain, but CBJ made some glaring coaching mistakes last season...the Missouri game immediately comes to mind.

And for all the criticism of Richt, he's had our collective number recently, with the exception of last season's fluke loss against us.

Richt has Tennessee's number by the skin of his teeth if that. He's consistently struggled to beat Tennessee the last few years, even when our teams are bad. It's only a matter of time till Tennessee will overtake them.

Also, say what you want about Jones but he is 2-0 against one Steven Spurrier. That buys you a lot of favor in Vol country.

Opening up my recruitment for any team in Florida right now. I will hold the chart or whatever, just be somewhat close to a beach. Oh, and I won't be on the travel team if it involves a temp drop of more than 10 degrees.

Winter...the worst.

Seriously though, good job putting together a class Gators.

I'll trade houses with you. Trust me, 10 months of 80 degrees sucks after awhile too.

I admit that August always made me suffer when I lived in FL. I was in Winter Park though. I might do better with a beach at my doorstep.

And yet the east champ has been Mizzou the last two years. I don't get it either though he's posts up against the tough ones he knows he has to win then blows the ones that should be fairly automatic ? I really don't get with the talent he's had why he hasn't had more success

His UGA teams also won the East the two years before that, also finishing ranked around 4th/5th.

Not to mention finishing ranked 9th this year.

But I'm also not sure that winning a division or conference should be considered automatic for any team that doesn't have either a current level of complete, overall dominance (as say Alabama has been within the last decade) or there's a massive drop off between them and everyone else in the conference (like OU and Texas in the Big 12 in the 2000s).

As much as I dislike Florida you must give them credit for finishing the recruiting wars the way they did. I know, Florida geographically has a lot of advantages with regards to recruiting that Tennessee does not have but the fact remains with the coaching caracal that went on you must give them credit, especially at the very end.

Talent wise Florida and Tennessee are now close, with a small nod to Florida. Coaching advantage remains to be seen. The major area in which Florida has the advantage is player experience which is hard to overcome.

It's going to be interesting to see how the next several years go. Right now I think the overall advantage is TENNESSEE! Momentum is on our side!

ok Gators put the pom poms and dom down long enough to splain this one to me.

Cece Jefferson's father won't let him sign with UF, wants Ole Miss apparently. Good Ole faith ba$ed recruiting by Freeze.

uhm thats more than a little bit of a difference. while i know it was never in question that you would pass us, I would hold off the sarcasm of a 'few' 5 stars when that # = your 4&5 stars. on a class where you had 2 months to pull together in a talent rich state.

we both had some other borderline 3 & 4s too before you get indignant on me that i didn't include (2 each by my count)

you poking fun of our class this year would be like if we had made fun of yours when we had dooley.

Not sure there's anything on the surface to suggest he's anything like Ron Zook.

Zook - No prior HC experience, demoted as DC under Spurrier to position coach.

McElwain - Turned CSU's program around as HC, won 2 NCs as Bama as their OC.

There's no valid reason for anyone to think that McElwain is anything but an excellent hire. As you pointed out, his track record speaks for itself at both Alabama as an OC and then again as Colorado State's head coach. He obviously just did a great job salvaging Florida's recruiting class. In my humble opinion, like every other Florida coach before him he will be a very formidable opponent to Tennessee. Can't begin to say how badly I hope I'm wrong but seriously doubt that I am.

so this was posted in the CeCe recruiting thread....

if true, wth florida?

The Story:

Quote:
Ok, Leo, CeCe's dad, called me and explained what's going on. I'll put it in bullet points to be as direct as I can....

-- Leo Jefferson is not refusing to sign his son's LOI

-- CeCe himself is not ready to sign and told his father that yesterday after his announcement.

-- Leo said that if CeCe said to sign and fax the letter to Florida, it would be signed and sent right now.

-- The Jefferson's found out that coach Williams was headed to the NFL from other coaches recruiting him because coach McElwain was calling around looking for a defensive line coach for a week. The Florida staff never told the Jeffersons Williams was leaving. They don't know coach Rumph at all.

-- Leo said that the in home visit with coach McElwain was rushed, they stayed for an hour and rushed out the door to see a 2016 prospect and only talked about the new dorms and the new facilities on the visit. The visit paled in comparison to the other in home visits.

-- Leo is a Gators fan he says, CeCe considers Florida his dream school but neither feels good about the staff or the changes at DL coach. Leo's wife doesn't want him to go to Florida and both parents felt CeCe should go away from home to grow up and get away from all the Gators fans in Baker County and his friends that might distract him. But he made it clear that if CeCe wants to go to Florida, they are on board.

-- Leo mentioned some concern about Foley being involved in the firing of assistant coaches and how involved he is in the program and that McElwain won't have the power at Florida that Saban, Freeze, Malzahn, Les Miles and others have at their schools.

-- He wouldn't tell me what school he and his wife preferred for CeCe.

-- He said the coaches at Florida wanted the letter signed by 8:30AM this morning so they could go on vacation. He said the only head coach of all the ones recruiting him that hasn't called as of 1PM ET is McElwain. Coaches from schools CeCe wasn't listing as finalists have all called but Florida has not called him.

-- He said he doesn't need his "ass kissed" but the staff should have considered being honest with them about the DL coach change and they haven't pursued CeCe nearly as hard as others and he's not sure why.

-- Finally he said "they aren't going on vacation anytime soon because we're not sending that letter".

Always love people on message boards that are "inside sources."....

This seems feasible. If true, McElwain has been a ****ty recruiter. Opposite of Butch's play on Richmond down the stretch.

Yes, it is completely feasible that with the issues we have, and just one other 5 start considering us, our coaches haven't worked this guy and his connections, and our coaches spent an hour at his house and ran off to go see a 2016 recruit.
