UF recruiting Woes

I enjoy most all the gator posters. What I found odd however was that they were all on a Vol board actively posting on signing day.

How does that work? Multiple windows open so one could yuck it up with Florida fans on the homeboard then quickly to the Volunteer and Seminole board.

Seems exhausting to me.

Lawrence however is their best poster. Completely non biased and to the point.

If you strip away the teams we support and eliminate the drama (looking at you vols4evah) you'd figure out that oftentimes some of us share the same opinion. This thread is a perfect example.

Beecher, Boca, KB, Weezer and VolSportsFan are among the most realistic and objective posters here. I can relate to VSF's contrarian posting style, because I post in a similar fashion on Gator Country to keep the unrealistic sunshine pumpers and Tebow zealots in check.

I doubt any Vol fan can deny McElwain did a bang up job at the 11th hour in recruiting. But the big question is can it be sustained through the next year. The classes are fairly comparable to CBJ's first year although we had a few surprises (Sutton, North and Dobbs) in that class that have been game changers.

But the big question is can McElwain continue to build on the success of this year going forward and continue to put a top 20 or higher class in. UF, not unlike UT, is a brand name that can attract the top tier classes. But can McElwain continue bringing in talent next year?

I'm curious to know, in the context of this thread, what you consider "deflecting", and if I'm the only poster in this thread, regardless of school affiliation, guilty of what you consider "deflecting".

He comes here "frequently" because of the sites reputation (for the most part) of allowing civil discussion and opinions regardless of team affiliation. Had it been the opposite, Im sure he would spend less time here.

While Im not a fan in anyway of his team (makes it easier when you don't beat them very often) his posts stick to the facts and very seldom stray into trolling or poking at UT fans. The rare occasions are normally a result of returning fire. I find no harm there.

UTs lack of success in regards to UF is difficult to handle from a Vol fans perspective. LWs existence on this site does not make that any more difficult.

i dont think people fully understand how much of a pain in the ass it was recruiting against muschamp and the relationships he already had with all our top targets

heres what i don't get, on one hand you are blasting muschamp for all the problems he left you and how he ruined recruiting for you this year because of how bad he was and questionable his tenure was. while on the other hand you are complimenting him as a recruiter at Auburn when he had the same amount of time as your new coach. so which is it? Did he suck (hurt recruiting) for you more at Florida or at Auburn?

The class will still be disappointing by UF standards.

So while I think UF takes a step back this recruiting cycle, it'll be business as usual in 2016.

Agree with you...if McElwain doesn't pull in a Top 5-10 class next year, then it's time to get concerned.

Oh we'll be depth shy in 2016 and 2017, no doubt.

But if McElwain can get consistent QB play out of Grier or Harris, this class will be a blip on the radar.

Personally, I think McElwain loads up on some 3* types focusing on positions where we lack depth. We take our lumps this year and look towards a Top 10 haul next year.

Looks like I'm not the only person here "deflecting" by mentioning the current 10-game streak....

They can finish dead last with this year's class and it'll have no effect on this year's game in Gainesville. Little doubt in my mind that UT will drop the 11th straight game to Florida in September. Much better chance to finally actually find a way to sneak out a win after lo these many years vs Florida in 2016 in Neyland.

Seriously, all you on here screaming about UF's demise because of this year's recruiting class should be ready for the absolute (and deserved) ungodly onslot of launched sewage that will follow if UF extends its streak next year.

And ftr, I think we Vol fans have underestimated UF enough to realize they're capable of surprises. Like it or not, their current win streak against us should have us feeling some humility.

Can't disagree with your statements. If McElwain can't recruit this year, then there are major reasons to be concerned. Even Muschamp could recruit well at Florida. It should be easy to get athletes in that state.

its all about relationships for alot of these kids they like muschamp and trob i know it might seem like going up against him should be easy since he sucked as a head coach but auburn is more relevant then fla right now and he's a proven DC i think most expect he'll be good at auburn so its not like that going up againt him and having to wait on the three 5 stars nsd decisions was probably hell they were the make or break guys and mac won that battle getting 2/3

Disagree that Muschamp had "the same amount of time" with regard to Cowart, as UF had been recruiting him for several years. Muschamp had he upper hand as far as the personal relationship with Cowart and his family.
