UF to duck Georgia Southern from here on out.

I expect us to win at Neyland, beause we usually do, and because I think UT has some serious question marks in the trenches.

I also expect to get pummeled by Bama and FSU, and lose close games to South Carolina and UGA.

Finishing 8-4 is a significant improvement compared to the 2013 results. Also to consider is what if those one of those "close" games results in a win for Florida? That will allow the Gators to finish the regular season 9-3 with a bowl game on the horizon. If this occurs, Muschamp stays thru 2015.

I just can't see Florida having another down year and finishing with a sub .500 record. Even with the shortcoming's CWM has, Florida always manages to recover somehow.

Foley missed his window with Franklin.

I think he's gonna tear it up at Penn State.

I don't think he missed anything. He doesn't need a gimmick. UF might be smoldering but its no dumpster fire like PSU and like Vandy has been for years.

Franklin played in a division that was as weak as it has ever been and did well. But when UF and the Vols get back to where they should be along with USCe and Ga then add in Mizz, Vandy would have been back to mediocre. Maybe he will do well at PSU but you don't need that kind of mouth.

We hired a gimmicky coach with a big mouth in 1989.

That worked out okay for us.

Spurrier didnt actively seek out media to run his mouth. He coached first and his comments came when asked. Franklin actively seeks to be a media whore. You really think that in the center of the state of Florida you need a coach calling sports shows in Tampa, Orlando, Jax, etc... to drum up support for the Gators? Is that really how bad it has got?

He's exactly what Vandy needed at the time. UT fans are just whining about it because he beat our beloved Vols on the field. Gerry DiNardo did the same thing back in the 90's but UT hammered them on the field and he was nothing more than a gnat. Franklin was actually making something happen on the field. He made Vandy competitive.

You know who else hi the sports shows around the South...Bruce Pearl. As a UT fan I loved it when he would come on with Dan Le Batard in Miami or on 620 WDAE in Tampa. So it's ok if Pearl is on promoting his basketball team, but it's not ok for Franklin to do the same?

in both situations - Pearl and Franklin - the programs they took over were rock bottom. No shame because there was nothing to lose. If it works, great. If it didnt then at least they tried something new. But both programs - UT men's bb and the black tarps as well as Vandy football - were awful. Florida is different. Quite possibly Muschamp isnt the answer and a 4 win season last year doesnt sit well with anyone but they arent black tarping The Swamp or filling more than half the stadium with opposing fans. They also havent experienced a multitude of years being mediocre or below mediocre either so no, they are not so desperate to go some gimmick route. You cannot compare what is going on at UF right now with what UT bb and Vandy fb went thru. Totally different animals.

Well written! :good!:

Has Franklin been burning up the airwaves since arrving at PSU? I know he's tearing up recruiting wise, but I haven't heard much else...but then I'm not looking for anything.

He got under UT's skin because he was able to deliver. He wasn't DiNardo Part II.

Franklin has upset every coach in the SEC now. He's attending camps at Stetson and Georgia State with his entire coaching staff and inviting all the high ranked kids from the south that PSU is interested in.

This way he gets 1-1 coaching time with the players he really wants to see. It bypasses a NCAA rule that you can't hold camps more than 50 miles from your campus because he's not holding the camps.

The SEC has a rule that you can't hold a camp more than 50 miles from your campus or be the specialty coaches at any camps more than 50 miles from campus...but, the NCAA doesn't stipulate on specialty coaching at camps

I think it's safe to say Gator fans' opinions vary... I've only been watching UF games for a little over 40 years, so I'm not the ultimate judge.

That said, the GSU loss didn't bother me that much because GSU is a 6-time DI-AA national champion, and was actually in their transition year to DI last season. They accepted an invitation to the Sun Belt in March of last year, making the loss to them not all that different from Bama's loss to Sun Belt team ULM in 2007. And, of course, Michigan lost to App. State, who still isn't DI, in 2007, and they're the winningest program in NCAA history.

I also like Muschamp and hope he stays a very long time. Having seen more than my share of UF coaches and years of substandard ball, I'm not impatient and know it often takes a few years to straighten out a program left in a shambles... takes even longer when the guy charged with fixing it is a rookie coach in his first hc job. The vast majority of boosters our family associates with agree.

Last season's record doesn't really bother me either; UF had the 2nd longest streak in the country of programs without a losing season leading up to last year... 33 years without a losing season is a boast few teams' fans can make or enjoy.

UF would NEVER consider hiring Petrino. NEVER. Too many of our Bulls and Foley lived through 1984-'85; no way we take a chance on a guy who has already proven he lacks character. Franklin is turning out to be somebody we'd avoid too; in fact PSU is wishing their athletic department had done a better job of vetting candidates right about now.

UF still had the SEC's 2nd best defense last year despite the offense keeping them on the field much longer than they should have been in every single game. If Roper improves the offense even a little, so that drives are sustained, we'll be fine. Looking forward to it.

Yes, our opinions do vary....and I've followed UF since the 70s, lived in Jacksonville during Herschel Walker's reign of terror, and was a UF student during Lynn Amadee, Donald Douglas playing QB and Gary Darnell. I've seen some crappy Gator football too.

The Georgia Southern debacle didn't bother me as much because the season was already a dumpster fire, and the South Carolina loss all but guaranteed a losing season.

That said, an injury riddled UF team should never lose to an injury riddled Georgia Southern team...ever.

My optimism for Roper is tempered because UF isn't exactly tearing it up recruiting on offense, and that's my biggest gripe with Muschamp. He doesn't appear to be a good evaluator of offensive talent. It took him more than half a season...and an injury to Matt Jones...to realize Kelvin Taylor was more than ready to play RB. Inexcusable.

I'm not nearly as bullish on Muschamp as you are. As for Petrino, he was on Foley's short list after Spurrier and Meyer moved on.

Franklin at UF would have been a perfect match, actually.

Probably the only thing the Gators could do to get UT fans to hate them even more.

I just heard about this today on WDAE with Steve Deumig and Chris Landry and thought it was very interesting that the SEC is handicapped by this rule but Franklin is able to take advantage of it. Smart move on his part.

By the way, if you ever catch Chris Landry on the radio he's worth listening to. He's a former NFL scout.

I still remember the crap UF fans gave us the year we lost to Wyoming...Believe me, I am enjoying the misery UF is going through with the GSU loss.
