I think Tressel won in his 2nd year. Not that it throws the averages off very much.

I created a similar list a while ago of every coach who had a losing season and then wound up winning a national title at the same school. The average seasons pre-title was really suprising. Coaches would never get that much rope in this day and age.

Your right - it was 2nd year

Moves the needle for overall average to 5.88 years and in BCS years to 3.42

Too much for one post...so let's break it down...

Arkansas sent Petrino packing because he lied and attempted to cover up the motorcycle accident...just like he lied to the Falcons, denying he was interested in the Arkansas job. This didn't stop Foley from making a call in 2010 to gauge his interest following Meyer's departure.

That and:

During Long's investigation, it was discovered that Petrino made a previously undisclosed $20,000 cash gift to Dorrell as a Christmas present. It was also revealed that Dorrell may have received preferential treatment in her hiring to the football staff, as Petrino's relationship with Dorrell was not disclosed and Petrino was on the hiring committee. Long determined that Petrino's attempts to mislead both him and the public about the accident and his relationship with Dorrell were grounds to fire Petrino for cause. Long also determined that the $20,000 payment could expose Arkansas to a sexual harassment suit if Petrino were retained.

If I understood correctly, at the time, keeping him also would have opened the school up to lawsuits since since they were an organization of the state of Arkansas and he hired someone he was dating over other candidates. (or I guess to word it as preferential treatment in hiring in a state/public organization.)

I'm not going to actively root against Muschamp, and I feel like he's an elite defensive coach. I hope we turn it around in a big way this season.

That being said, I don't think he's a good head coach. I hope I'm wrong of course, and Pease was really good at making Will look bad. Not to mention our highly touted offensive recruits not panning out. But I just don't see of with Will. I think we'll be looking for a new head coach next year. He's too stubborn.

We're still beating UT though. :)

Maybe.
