UFC Thread

I still don't get why we're talking about Brock. First of all, he was the champ. Second, he had health issues.

Clint has a boxing background, and Kelvin has a wrestling base...typically boxers don't have much experience that translates. I still think Clint was the most inexperienced. Definitely among the least experienced (can you at least agree on that?). He was Jones' top pick.

Because I'm actually staying on topic. Most people saw Brock as this big scary dude, I saw him as an over hyped fighter with a weak chin, that ran when he got hit. He was pushed toward the title because of his name and ability to sell ppvs. Sure he had injuries, still doesn't negate the fact that Overeem kicked his azz back to the WWE. He was.a classic case of people buying the media hype.

I said Clint was raw and inexperienced, do you read what I say? I said I don't base off of appearance, but you keep bringing up other people that do. I said some people do but not all. Your argument makes no sense, cause I am talking about what I do not other people. You keep reaching for something that isn't there.

People bought into the hype about Brock, but it turns out they were somewhat right. He was the champ, was he not? Still don't know what your point is. I don't think we're able to communicate well today, so probably best to pick this up at another time, LOL.

Our discussion has kinda fallen off the rails at this point.
But in all fairness I have been at work the last three hours. Half of my brain is doing this, while the other half is working. Lol I'll explain what I mean when I get off. :)

Talking about Brock, he's not a good example to use. He lost to Mir, beat Herring, and got a title shot. He's still the least deserving title fighter in UFC history. (which is really impressive considering their recent track record of handing out title shots)

He won the title by beating Couture, who was old and tiny for a HW. His first title defense came against Frank, who had one of the worst game plans I've ever seen. Then he submitted Carwin, who was almost comatose from being so gassed, after dominating the 1st Round. Then came the losses to Cain and Reem.

Granted, it is possible the diverticulitis played a role in his fall, but I still fail to see how he fulfilled the hype surrounding him, even if he was the HW Champ for a while.

Thank you for finishing my thought process. :)

UFC heavyweights were weak when he won. I think we're mostly in agreement. I'm saying he did in fact win so people were right to think he would win, but the people that thought he was going to dominate were obviously wrong.

I can agree with this. Brock Lesnar was the No. 1 draw in terms of PPV. At the end of the day the UFC is a business and Lesnar was a big draw. Trying to look more into it seems like a waste of time.

I definitely agree. It's amazing how weak the HW division was then. Before Randy, Tim Sylvia was the champ. If Mir hadn't had the motorcycle accident, he would have went on a dominant run in the HW division that would have lasted for years.

Everything Brock acheived in the UFC can be credited to his marketability. That's for sure.

I don't know if I'll be watching the fights tonight. Maybe, I'll be home anyways and I'm already messed up. On wednesday my mom had xrays taken and they could only see one half of her lungs and had to send them to someone else. Got a call last night that she had to go to the e.r. to have her lungs drained. Found out 45 minutes ago she has a cancerous tumor on her lungs. I'm just beat at this point... my grandma not too long ago and now this. There's other stuff and it's like life is taking one big dump on me. I just thought I'd let you guys know since this was the only place I posted about my grandma. Anyways, I don't know if I'll be around for the fights. Might be passed out.
