UGA Coach Rodney Garner To Remain With Bulldogs

I agree. I've been in positions where I've gone to my boss to say that I think I'm worth more $'s without any counteroffer just to give them a chance to pay me what I thought I was worth. You shouldn't have to have a counteroffer in hand to get more if your employer really thinks you are valuable. Luckily for me, I'm no longer in the position to ask anyone for more $'s.

Exactly. In a previous job I went to my employer and asked for a raise and after a couple of weeks of back and forth, he offered about a 15% increase. A few months later I told him I had another offer and he offered to nearly double my salary on the spot. Thanks, but no.

Yes, they COULD match it. UGA obviously didn't have to.

Exactly. He has a much easier job at UGA, with much, much less travel, a big deal when considering family time. Georgia recruiting is like a well oiled machine right now, with most of the recruits right in your own back yard. The only negative factor with UGA was the salary and maybe recognition. He probably got a strong dose of both in this process.

He had to do what was right for him. I had a feeling we were out of it when I found out Richt was going to have the presser. Oh well, time to move on.

The Garner hoop la did make for an interesting Sunday and Monday morning of plane watching. Still sucks he choose uga.

"They talked about shifting around the staff to make a place for me on defense," Garner said. "They talked about the possibility of coach (Ed) Orgeron to linebackers. My thing is that I never want to be a divisive force on a staff. They have a plan in place and it takes a team effort and great chemistry to win. I didn't want be any kind of issue that way. You have to have everyone in one accord and on the same page."

I feel for Garner. Happened to me also once. There was such great chemistry and I had my heart set on working the fry station but they wanted me to dress burgers. I didn't want to be a diversion for the rest of the superstar staff so I decided not to take the position. :p

Let's face it his wife calls the shots and he doesn't want to admit it.

Oh well, can't win them all. Thanks for trying anyway CLK... I'm certainly not going to lose any sleep over someone who didn't really want to come here anyway.....
at least we've still got Eric Berry. :dance2:

Garner did all this for more money---that chemistry stuff is a bunch of BS.

IF it was strictly about money he would have came...

It wasn't just about money...hence he stayed.

Was hoping to get on here today and see Garner back at Tennessee,I always hated losing this guy.

Why would we want him if he does this every year? Sounds like he needs to be stroked once a year and the wife wears the pants in the family!!!!!!

Let's face it, the guy played Georgia and UT like a fined-tuned Stratovarius. He's done it three times before and I dare say he'll try to do it again before he leaves Georgia. Most of the Georgia fans I know down here called it; a play for more money; and it's wearing pretty thin with a lot of folks. I dare say this might be his last successful ploy of this nature.

it's more than a ploy when the market sets the price, which we clearly did.

Good stuff right there. :lolabove:

No it's quite simple....he played us for a raise.

No he didn't. You guys saying he played us for a raise are nuts. I work for a great company. However if another great company offered me more money I sure as hell would go to my current employer and ask for a raise. It's called BUSINESS.

I would be getting pretty tired of that act if I were a dawg fan too. You know Richt has to be muttering under his breath after all of this.

But I guess its still worth if for them.
