RB: Drayton - for the moment , future unknown

DB: most likely Monte

WR: Need to fill

LB: could be Monte / need to fill

In the press conf. Friday, Monte said he wouldn't be coaching positions but in stead would be a "walk around" DC.

Disagree, he knew what titles were still available and used our offer as his bargaining chip to get more money. He pretty much wasted everyone's time in the process. That may be the game however I'm not convinced he was truly interested in K-Town.

He used the past 48 hours to make himself an extra $100k (approx.). I'd say it wasn't a waste of Garner's time.

I truly believe that Garner went into this with the idea of coming back to UT, but when Richt put up a bigger fight than he expected Rodney couldn't turn down the cash to stay at home and make his wife happy. Basically Richt was scared of us, he knows we are building a stout staff.

Garner saw the money we threw at O. He used that as a bargaining chip to get a raise. Props to him. It's a shame he had to go to these legnths to get a raise. He should be UGA DC anyway. I hope it creates dissention in the ranks for their team.

Reported here in Oklahoma City's Sports Animal that Trooper was hired today by Auburn...so the search continues...

Monte seemed to indicate in the press conference that he would not coach a position, but be a "roving" coordinator as he has done in the past...

The coaches out there are like all of us. They are going to look at alot of things before moving jobs. Family, Money, Security, the chance to advance. I for one think Coach Garner was serious about leaving. But in the end UGA probably gave him what he wanted or at least what he needed to stay. So he did. I won't say good luck to him. Because I hope we find a way back into Georgia. But he does at least seem to be honest about things he could have probably let this go on for a little longer and gotten some more money.

I'm not convinced that is the case...I think that he had hoped to get a job on our defensive staff (and a big pay raise), but we weren't prepared to offer that side of the ball.

He knew what it would take to get his family to Knoxville and never expected to get it I suspect.

I'm certain that we started the process, not Garner. He didn't go to any lengths. He legitimately interviewed for a job that we offered. His employer saw fit to offer enough to keep him rather than lose him to a close competitor.

Oh well. It would have just made a monstrous recruiting staff better. Not gonna make or break the staff to have him.

Wish we could have gotten him.

But like I said earlier, he would have been extra icing on an already massive cake.

Can't win em all...

It's just business. UT offered, UGa countered, and Garner took what he saw as the best deal for him. I've done the same thing. Although, I'm usually hesitant to accept a counter offer. My position is 'If I'm worth that to you now, why wasn't I worth that 24 hours ago?' I don't like it when I have to get another offer before my current employer will pay what I'm worth.

Anyway, he is a great recruiter and I would've liked him back here, but it's hardly the end of the world.

Exactly, as I stated in an earlier thread, the ADs from other programs have now been put on notice....if UT and CLK wants one of your own you had better be prepared to dig deep in the wallet to keep em'.

So so so so true. I wanted him to come to Tennessee, but we can't get everybody we want all the time. I still think we are so much better staffed than we were last year.
:eek:k:

but your manager's / boss' job is to pay you as little as possible in keeping you as productive as possible. Why would they go out of their way to pay you more unless they had good reason?
