Umm, that fella didn't bring up the fact that we beat Bama. Didn't even mention them.
You brought that up. Which indicates it is worrying you. You know, that we beat a team that is well beyond yours.
It's chewing at the back of your brain, isn't it? That you're about to face that kind of ferocious resolve and talent.
It is not truly your fault. I blame the college football media. They love narratives. So in the off-season, as they were all sitting around brainstorming narratives to pursue in the 2022 season, one of them glommed onto this idea that Will Levis is a superstar, Mark Stoops a quiet genius, and Kentucky a sleeping giant. And that fella, whoever he was, was joined by a handful of others in this made-up narrative, and they talked you guys up, big-time. Talked you right up to a #7 ranking.
And you fell for it.
Not just you, either. There was an UGa fan on these boards talking way back in mid-September about how Kentucky could show up in Athens undefeated on the 19th of November to "decide the SEC East." Heh.
I told that fella back then that you likely weren't going to escape the month of October without at least two losses. Turns out it is going to be three.
So now, now that your Dreamworks Studios vision of a magical season has come crashing down, you fall back to what delusional Kentucky fans fall back on every year: maybe we can at least beat Tennessee.
Son, you know that almost never (and I mean that literally, almost never) works out well for you. You know that, right?
So I don't care if you're faster on defense than you were a year ago. I don't care if you're fast enough on defense to give yourself little tingles of excitement and anticipation.
We are going to crush you. This isn't going to be a close game. It is not going to be "close late." We're going to stomp a mud hole in you.
Enjoy the game!
Go Vols!
