Ukraine II: The Fight Against Russian Aggression

I know there were supposed to be multi-national war games in Eastern Europe last month. Did they happen, Carlos?

not sure if we are referencing the same things, but one of my reservist friends was deployed over that way for a week or two in July. he couldn't speak to what it was he was doing, or where exactly.

Too drunk?

Same thing. My son had gone over in March to scout out a couple of areas. He was going to be going back in July but is on alert so they sent someone else.

escalating is thinking about sending weapons? havent we already sent weapons? What about Russia escalating with all their weapons?

maybe the article will shed some light on this.

Mattis dropping some heat. This is why I love reading Ras's links, they usually defeat his purpose.

“Defensive weapons are not provocative unless you are an aggressor, and clearly Ukraine is not an aggressor since it is their territory where the fighting is happening,” Mr. Mattis said at a joint news conference with Ukraine’s president, Petro O. Poroshenko.

British, Turkish, Georgian and East European defense ministers joined Mr. Mattis at the event, but German, French and other Western European defense ministers did not attend.

The United States has already provided about $750 million in nonlethal arms to Ukraine, including body armor, night-vision equipment, radios and Humvees, as well as radars to pinpoint the location of enemy mortars.

Mr. Poroshenko said that Russia still had an estimated 3,000 troops in eastern Ukraine. He also reaffirmed his support for a new cease-fire, and urged the Kremlin to withdraw its troops and to stop supplying the separatists.

it is seriously like he doesn't read the articles his posts.

With Zapad-2017 scheduled to start tomorrow, Russia is experiencing a wave of bomb threats that have caused thousands to evacuate and already Russian sources are saying they were phoned in from Ukraine. Russia already laying the justification for using Zapad to further escalate the war in Ukraine I fear, if I were Kiev I would be worried.

@LucasFoxNews

Gen. Dunford says plan to send weapons to Ukraine now 'at the White House' & Pentagon has been asking for update for past 'couple weeks'

Sadly I don't think Trump has the guts to order it.

What will sending weapons do? It won't change anything....just the death count on both sides...

Why do you guys get behind self determination only when it benefits our corrupt govt and globalist?

no, no, no. 92% of Crimeans wanted the government back. including the 20% that are Tatars. Who cares that Russia doesn't think they are a people or should any rights.

http://blog.vantagepointnorth.net/2017/10/russian-oktoberfest-activation-of.html

Even though the Zapad2017 drill, that rehearsed assault through the Baltics to relieve the Kaliningrad enclave, has ended, the Russian armed forces are not resting on their laurels. Today Russia announced that it will begin a control check that will include all military units in all of the military branches.

The control checks will be conducted in two phases. During the first phase of the tests over 300 active duty formations will be brought to combat readiness and tested by the inspectors. These checks will happen before the 15th of October. The checks will be held in 120 training areas across the Russian federation. There will be a significant number of tactical level exercises with troops relocating from their bases to the training areas. The amount of ground forces combat units involved can reach up to 120,000 soldiers.

The October Checks will also include reservist call-ups and mobilizations of reserve formations. The Russian armed forces have not published any numbers about the amount of reservists that will be involved in these mobilizations. The regional reservist call-up system was last tested during the Zapad2017 at least in the Kaliningrad and Pskov Oblasts.

Russia Targets NATO Soldier Smartphones, Western Officials Say - WSJ

The Russians are (still) hacking the phones (and Facebook accounts) of U.S., NATO soldiers deployed to Poland and the Baltic states, The Wall Street Journal reports this morning. “Troops, officers and government officials of North Atlantic Treaty Organization member countries said Russia has carried out a campaign to compromise soldiers’ smartphones. The aim, they say, is to gain operational information, gauge troop strength and intimidate soldiers.”
One key indicator pointing to Russia: “the equipment used, such as sophisticated drones equipped with surveillance electronics, is beyond the reach of most civilians.”
How it was discovered, at least one time: “U.S. Army Lt. Col. Christopher L’Heureux, who took over as commander of a NATO base in Poland in July” says he was among the intended targets. “Soon after… he returned to his truck from shooting drills to find his personal iPhone had been hacked and reported lost. The hacker was attempting to breach a second layer of password protection through a Russian IP address, he said. ‘It had a little Apple map, and in the center of the map was Moscow,’ said Col. L’Heureux, stationed not far from a major Russian military base. ‘It said, “Somebody is trying to access your iPhone”.’”
Said Michael O’Hanlon of Brookings: “Russia [is] almost doing us a ‘favor’ teaching us about this vulnerability now, so we can adapt.”

So, which side do you stand on the Catalonia referendum?

Catalonia. Unless you can prove to me that they were invaded, local officials arrested or kicked out, and the invaders held the election under gun point.

if anything that is what the Spanish are doing, why aren't you in favor of them?

I don't understand your question? Again, why weren't you in favor of the 90+% of Crimeans who wanted a choice, but are here? Spain is using force to prevent that, while Russia used force to allow such....Ukraine had no intention of allowing such...

Spain used force to get a "no" and got a "yes". seems the people voted for what they wanted anyway.
Russia used force to get a "yes" and got a "yes". Seems like Russia got what they wanted.

see the difference?
