Unbelievably embarrassing!

For me it's not that we won't get Gruden.

It's that the names being mentioned are trash. Bob Stoops and Jimbo Fisher should be able to steamroll the Big 12 and ACC given the Texas and Florida pipeline but they don't. How are they going to do any better recruiting at Tennessee and going up against the SEC? Even worse, Al Golden and Charlie Strong will be about as good as Dooley in my opinion. Butch Davis??? We're already in enough trouble.

I could think of about 10 coaches I'd be happy with and from the sounds of it, we're not going after any of them. Gundy and Mullen are about the only names I've heard that would intrigue me I believe. Petersen, Patterson, Mora, and Fitzgerald should all be on the list too. That's 6 names right there I wouldn't mind and Tennessee is better than all of the schools they coach at.

There are plenty of coaches I'd be happy with, the problem we're hearing names that sound awful. That's jmo and I can't help that I feel that way. So yeah... it's not that I think Tennessee is screwed without Gruden, it's that I think Tennessee is screwed with Charlie Strong or Al Golden.

I stated in the Gruden X thread that all the furor over Gruden was not only foolish and embarrassing but also hurting the coaching search. The Gruden lovers tried to ride me out of town on a horse, as they tried with all the people who tried to talk sense around here. Well, there you have it, folks. And if you look at the 1:00 mark, you will see that others more qualified than I felt the insanity infecting Volnation was hurting the search.

Jon Gruden not focus of Tennessee Volunteers' search for coach, sources say - ESPN

His lawyer is making this statement for protection of his current position with ESPN. JG's and his agent are working on the deal and the lawyer has read over the contract and approved then the statement will change. Coming to a head in a few days!

At this point I do not think anyone knows who will be the next coach. I do think the success should determine Harts and Cheek' job.

Most of those folks are 1.) extremely young and/or immature 2.) Arent Vol fans anyways....granted there may be one or two that actually believe that and are true Vol fans but the obsurdity of thinking like that is just not logical......Actually very silly and girlish......

Sorry Dave Hart is an IDIOT! I'm not young or immature. I DO remember the University when we had folks like Reese, Woodruff and Dickey running things.

I agree that the fans calling for hart's firing are being a little unreasonable, but as far as the fans getting their hopes up and having fun about the gruden possibility...? If now isn't a time to get our hopes up then when is? We need good news right now.

Agreed. This is my problem as well. I never really believed that Gruden was coming here, and I said so many times. But I began to hope that was the case, because based on the other info I was getting, it seemed like if Gruden wasn't in the bag then we had a lazy and stupid AD who was wasting time in Knoxville and hoping to land underachievers like Golden or Fisher or whoever.

What would make sense, to me, is that if Gruden turns you down, then you go to the next best coaching candidate, Petersen or Patterson, and offer them as much money as you can afford to come here. But, unfortunately, it sounds like the chosen method is to find someone rather lackluster who can maybe win 8 games a season in the SEC and give them the job and lock them in longterm and just hope the stupid fans fall in line, like they did when Dooley was hired. And the rest of us can look forward to hearing "well, he's better than Dooley, at least" for the next 4 or so years. Sorry, but if that's the plan, I'm done.

Looks like TN football's saviour has let us down by saying "I don't know what you are talking about? I've not heard anything from UT about being their coach". Is this what I've heard lately from the media? I've been out running around doing Christmas shopping & working for a living; taking care of more important things in life & not keeping up with the coaching search. So, Gruden said what?

the UT administrators are embarrassing--they kept fulmer around too long, let the program go down, then hired kiffin and dooley, making the program a laughingstock. They get paid big money and failed miserably. Will they repay some of their salary for this incompetence?

You guys ready to have a sense of humor here? Things do go from tragic to hilarious

My friend texted me a message Tennessee to hire Bear Bryant but they are having trouble reaching him

Cracked me up ....then I called him a nasty name

It would be hilarious if I were not a fan. It is amazing to see how many fans think Hart's sole purpose, and only job was to fire Dooley and then hire Gruden. We have fans suddenly calling this the end of UT football for years to come. We have others demanding that Hart and Cheek be fired immediately. Our fan base appears to have the collective IQ of a box of hair. Pathetic.

On target.

We have a great fan base for the most part. I think 70% of the base gets it. It's 30% that get their mind stuck on one guy, and that's it. I laughed 4 years ago when the uproar came in for Phil. The man was only the 2nd greatest coach we ever had, record stood for itself. As a school we have won roughly 68% of the time. Phil won 75% of the time.

If anything I fault our administration. They listen to the fans too much. They fired Phil, upon demand. Hired Kiffen on demand. Realized they would be eating crow with Dooley, IMHO, they didnt have much choice in that hire. Then they dilly-dally around with a arm-chair coach, who quite fankly, loves the attention. And used the publicity to enable stronger offers from the NFL. In the meantime, Arkansas, Auburn, and other schools are probably out interviewing "real" candidates.

Strong, Golden, Jones(June not Butch), Briles, Roman, Grobe, should all be on a short list. Leave Stoops and Fisher out of it.

why pay money to be around all these obnoxious fans--sell the tickets for big money, but a 65 inch LED TV, stay home and drink tons of cold beer and jack daniels.
