UNC and Duke Basketball, 2015-16

And since you "greatly prefer" Duke to Carolina, remind me how many free throws they got yesterday?

Didn't watch the the Duke game, I had to work. But I'm not oblivious to the fact Duke gets their fair share of calls (flops) and outshoots an overwhelming majority of their opponents. It's a fact that every analyst likes to point out, every time someone steps to the line, "Duke has made more FT than their opponents have attempted." If we all had a nickel for that commentary we'd be sharing drinks in Fiji and watching the tournament together. Given that annual stat, I'm embarrassed at times for K when he starts whining. He remembers the one call that went "against" I'm and fails to recognize the twelve per game that go his way.

Side note, Grayson Allen's antics thus far in his short career make Laettner look mild.

Why's it relevant? It was a question. When he responded I simply said I figured. It's good odds that most of the fanbases of these 2 schools have no history with the schools. I just happen to find it as a matter of conevenince when one is a fan of a school they have no affiliation to and that school happens to be one of the GOAT. Very little difference than the Bama football fans running around the South that many on here are quick to call out.

No, I didn't attend Duke. I also don't claim to be a Duke fan so that's a poor point.

The implication that people who went there (or have a relative that did, which is weak as hell) are somehow truer fans is snobby/snide as **** IMO

Growing up in the state or having familial ties to the state would be a start. I've never understood the reasoning behind randomly picking a school to follow. Why not pick Elon if that's the case. It just so happens that the random following of NCAA teams, more times than not, happen to be top 5-10 programs in their respective sports. I have a neighbor who's a UT football fan, UK bball fan and LSU baseball fan. Over his 60 years of life, he's winning more often than not.

Well, let's see. Born and raised in Western NC and been here for 38 years next week. Grew up with no cable and only one TV channel. My earliest Carolina basketball memories revolve around Jeff Lebo, J.R. Reid, and Scott Williams so mid-80's. Never saw much about Carolina football growing up, but I started following UT football once we had cable and ESPN in the days of Andy Kelly and Carl Pickens. There's a big UT football following in Western NC as most any of the high school talent from this area that played Division I/FBS football, played it at UT. Carl Pickens, Shawn Bryson, Heath Shuler, Josh Tucker, Brent Gibson, Jimmy Streater, Benjie Shuler (I know why he got a scholly to UT, just throwing him in), Leonard Little, Craig King.....that covers about eveyone I can think of. I guess I should have just stuck to following Western Carolina.

There you go. Had you said from NC 15 hrs ago I would've understood and been less of an ass. It's the folks like my neighbor, born and raised in Middle TN all his life and choose LSU baseball to follow. No reason or logic behind it.

Or you could have asked where I was from instead of writing off my fandom based upon me not having a tangible connection to the university and then becoming an ass about the situation.

Or when I said go there? Family go there? You could've said born and raised in NC for 38 years. Sorry to be an ass. I've got a buddy who's whole family went to UF, including himself, he's a 4-5th generation Floridian yet every year tournament time starts spouting "Tar Heel Born, Tar Heel Bred...." BS.

It's Bred, btw. Tar Heel Bred.

No harm/No foul. You do OK. Most folks from Bowlinggreen are oblivious to the fact that "West Kentucky" is a 2 hour drive from them.

My unofficial boundaries are anything west of I-65 is western KY, between I-65 and I-75 is central KY and everything east of I-75 is eastern KY. Downtown Bowling Green qualifies as western KY by about 4 miles.

Volprof professed his reservations with the Pac12 somewhere in this thread. He's looking pretty damn good now. They've absolutely choked

I'm pretty strict. Bowlinggreen is the Compton of Kentucky. #SouthCentral. I've lightened up in recent years and decided to annex Owensboro due to their contributions in BBQ.

Owensboro has too much of a Midwest feel for me. Not a fan of the BBQ up there either; who thought to throw BBQ sauce on a sheep?

The Volprof Eye Test Index seldom fails to rip the statistics to shreds. Numbers can tell a lot but not everything.

Mutton is delicious. :) You city boys act like folks are eating possum...

BG is the biggest city I ever lived in outside of school in Knoxville. I come from a town of 4500 peeps. Our BBQ joint served wild hog, though they'll never tell anyone that. Much better than your typical pulled pork.

I've only really bought into Oregon and Utah. We'll see if UO holds up.

If someone were to have asked me before the tournament to rank each major conference, without reference to any numbers or statistics, here's how I would have ranked each:

1. ACC
2. Big 12
3. Big Ten
4. Big East
5. Pac 12
6. SEC

I don't know how the numbers have played out for each thus far, other than that the Pac is currently 1-5 (I think) and the ACC currently undefeated (Pitt already looks like it's well on its way, and I also expect Notre Dame to beat Michigan later). But this is just one round of the tournament, and conference fortunes can change just as quickly as the next.

Oregon didn't play all that well. Shooting was just not very good and gave up to many easy baskets.

Best part of a game like that is that it's over and the Ducks move on. They will need to play better going forward.
