UNC and Duke Basketball, 2015-16

If someone were to have asked me before the tournament to rank each major conference, without reference to any numbers or statistics, here's how I would have ranked each:

1. ACC
2. Big 12
3. Big Ten
4. Big East
5. Pac 12
6. SEC

I don't know how the numbers have played out for each thus far, other than that the Pac is currently 1-5 (I think) and the ACC currently undefeated (Pitt already looks like it's well on its way, and I also expect Notre Dame to beat Michigan later). But this is just one round of the tournament, and conference fortunes can change just as quickly as the next.

I'd swap 2 and 3. And I'd have said that prior to WVU and Texas's start so far. Mich St makes my argument look bad though.

He's not quick enough for this game regardless, but I don't think he's 100% either. He's got no lift when jumping. I think his knee is still hobbling him.

If I'm not mistaken, the ACC is now 10-1, with two games Sunday. This doesn't even include Louisville, who most likely would have been a 3-5 seed this year.

That's pretty damn impressive, if you ask me.

Our one loss thus far? It took two Pitt players running into one another to cause a miss on the point-blank go-ahead shot with two seconds left.

No doubt the ACC is looking very very good. And my PAC 12 has looked horrible. I honestly thought AZ and Utah would win first round and possibly Colorado as well. OSU and Cal I figured for early trips home.

It'll be interesting to see how my Ducks do with St Joe. They've got a couple really really good players.

Question for my Tar Heel "born & c'orn bread" friends or you know just fans...

This 2015-2016 season is only a success if we ??? (Fill in the blank)

Or are you satisfied with your accomplishments thus far, Winning the ACC Regular season and Tourney, sweet 16 appearance and Split with your rival ?

Anything less than a F4, given the talent and preseason expectations, should be a disappointment.

Final Four, at minimum. That being said, this might the best chance at winning it all for the foreseeable future so they need to get it done. If for some crazy reason, some combo of Berry/Jackson/Hicks decide to leave early, next year could be rough. Winning it all this year would go a long way towards getting recruiting back up and running full steam and get to UNC program back in the conversation for the right reasons.

Near future of the program needs a trophy in a bad way.

Bring on Oregon. I like it. Can't wait to watch around 10:30 EST on Thursday. I don't like going to work anyway.

Duke should end up in the Final Four. No team out of that bracket particularly impresses me. I think you're nearly dead even with Oregon and Oklahoma, at worst.

As far as UNC is concerned, the winner of UNC/Indiana will be in the Final Four.

Regarding your question above, I would be very disappointed with anything less than a Final Four. I feel like you've had a successful season as long as you make it to the Final Four. It's the game's biggest stage, and you garner massive amounts of media and public attention for an entire week. Now, if UNC hardly ever won a national title, or had another near thirty-year drought like between '57 and '82, then I would start considering it a failure with anything less than a championship. As a poster or two has pointed out already, though, it will probably be more difficult to swallow anything less than a championship this year simply because the path now seems so much simpler than before and because, provided they can simply shoot the damn ball, UNC is the best team in the land.

ACC now 12-1. Granted, we've had some very favorable matchups though. Syracuse has to be the luckiest damn team to not deserve to be in the tournament in the first place to have ever been in the tournament period. It's like a god gift-wrapped their path to the Sweet Sixteen.
