UNC Basketball, Part Deux

Starting to lean towards Towns over Okafor... Towns is better all around IMO

If he played anywhere else he would average
18-20 and 10

Okafor, like Parker is awful on D (and Free Throws)

If it's any concession to you, RDU, the last two Carolina NCAA championships, they looked like complete ass hats in the ACC tournament.

Granted, you all beat the hell out of NC Stupidhead. So I'm hoping our awful ACC tourny magic does not work for you.

Tonight was just one of those nights. Notre Dame had an answer for everything.

We were talking about replacements for K and Roy a few days ago, and I mentioned Bennett from UVA as a potential for Roy (should UNC get smart and decide to go outside the family). I questioned whether or not he'd be willing to, since he coaches within the same conference and has a pretty good thing going at the moment, but I had completely forgotten the fact he was one of the old school Charlotte Hornets. If UNC were to play up that fact in his hiring, I think he would be a very popular hire. Boring as hell to watch, but evidently a very good coach.

Still a few years away from that though, I'd say.

How tough is the ACC Tournament?

Roy Williams has as many national titles as he does ACC tourney titles. And those national title teams didn't even make it to the final of the ACC.

I worry that Notre Dame is just too good a shooting team for us to handle, just like back in January.

Even the 85 year old grandma that had to be wheelchaired in up in section ZZ could see that last three coming from a mile away.

This is shaping up to be a repeat of the first half. Carolina jumps out early. Notre Dame 3 point shooting shapes up late.

I don't think I've ever seen a 9 point lead turn into a 3 point deficit quite that quickly.

That was really something.

What a magnificent ****up of a collapse. Unbelievable. Good win for Notre Dame. As I've said before, the 3 point shot has completely changed the game.

All I can do is laugh...

Careless with the ball

Wide open threes

Can't stay in front of anyone or close out on D

I was just sitting here sipping my beer, thinking, "Man, looks like we just might get us another ACC Championship," and then BOOMMMMMM!!! Down 12 points.

Make that 14. Yeah, this one is in the books. Like I said before, Notre Dame is just too good a shooting team for UNC.

Free Throws:

Carolina: 5-7

Notre Dame: 28-32

Granted, the attempts started piling up towards the end when Carolina was putting them on the line, but that's just a silly discrepancy.

I'm not going to fault that statistic. Notre Dame is just a flat out better team, and a better-shooting team, than us. But, yes, I find it odd. They must have very good controlled defense, especially considering UNC is the team that goes inside.

Which is to say, yes, the foul discrepancy was a baffling at best.

Maybe it's just the near-sighted fan in me, but I don't think I've ever seen a game change so dramatically like what we just saw.

It's like Notre Dame was snickering at us, letting us get a big lead (what was it, 9 or 10?), and then hit the button, and it was over.

I mean, that game was over almost on the drop of a dime. I know KU had a big lead in the 2nd on Iowa State, only to lose, but it didn't happen in 2 minutes or whatever, and they were still in it nearly to the end. I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like this.

I also believe that we will see a strong ACC representation in the later rounds of the tournament. Carolina, Virginia, Notre Dame, and Duke are all legit contenders. The bottom of the league was garbage, but the top teams are strong.

UNC was a given if they ever clicked. Paige had/has the potential to be a Wooden winner, but the whole team struggled at times. Kinda a mediocre performance from a top 25 team throughout the year. In all fairness to them, they didn't lose any bad games though. They swept UL, but that UVA win really impressed me.

Brey, Hurley and Amaker all cut down nets today. Maybe we Dukies have a post K chance.
