UNC basketball

It's another beautiful morning. And I'm reminded once again how wonderful it is not to be a State fan.

Not aimed at RDU, but I wish another Duke fan would try to tell me that Cook is better than Paige..

For all the Ennis nut hugging, Paige should be first team all ACC pg

Ennis is certainly a good player (and a much better frosh than Paige was), and he is an admittedly better NBA prospect.

That being said, I'll take Paige this year. Kid has flat out been a beast. I don't think I can recall such a "makeover" quite like that he has had from his freshman year.

It took State half a century to get back to the CWS. And what happened?

Lost to UNC.

That's just priceless. It's hard to comprehend the mediocrity and bad luck of that program.

Not to mention, they are directly responsible for that doooooosh nozzle known as Philip Rivers.

That was much closer than it should have been, but we still won. Honestly, if you're Duke or UNC on the road in the ACC, then you are going to get the opponents' best game more often than not. Although sloppy, we still withstood.

11 wins in a row. I don't expect this team to go deep (Elite 8 or Final Four) in the tourney, but anytime you win 11 straight in conference play, you've done something. Just outstanding.

I know I've questioned Roy in the last couple of years, but I'm going to keep my mouth shut now.

While I don't expect us to go to the Final Four, or even the Elite Eight, this year, if we keep McAdoo and Paige, only to combine them with Pinson, Berry, and Jackson, this team should be hell on wheels next year. The only loss will be LMac.

Knucklehead ball has returned to Chapel Hill. Hopefully we can pull through. Honestly, this team just needs to realize how they don't have to shoot over everyone; they can actually drive the ball, and often do it effectively.

With this Carolina team, I won't complain about any win. This UNC team has clearly demonstrated that they will be up and down with shooting - more often than not, down. 12 straight wins is more than anyone should reasonably ask for, regardless what each win has looked like.

On to Duke for a hot Saturday night date.

On a related note, provided we play Duke very close this weekend even in a lost, think we will be ranked number 8 in the new polls next week?

Your tight rope act ain't gonna get it done Saturday night. I had no idea it was that close. I turned it off when you guys were up 14 in the first.

They could wind up playing themselves into a 2/3 seed for March Madness.

It really is unbelievable. Granted, I don't think they end up doing that, because it would probably require them winning out, but still. Even so, the rankings/speculative seedings don't mean much to me; in fact, they seem arbitrary. We're number 14 in both polls, and Lunardi has us as a 5 seed. 18 in Rpi and 22 in Kenpom. Just all the more reason why rankings and quack polls are worthless. And obviously "bad losses" cost you much more than "quality wins." Otherwise, UNC would be ranked much higher.

I know it sounds silly, but I go off the "eye test," so to speak. My eye test tells me that this team will be luck to make the Elite 8, but is certainly better than a damn 5 seed or 22 in the nation at the moment.

3/4 seed. Win this weekend or get to the conference championship and it could improve.

Yeah they got really hot, while the Heels played really bad. I'm just hoping for another good game Satuday... It would be something to see this team sweep Duke though in this strange season

I think a 3/4 seed is the most likely outcome, barring a loss on Friday in the ACC tourney. Their rise in the poll is probably 60% winning streak and 40% everybody above them losing in the past week.

Honestly, given a better overview of our seasons now, do UNC and Duke seem like they're that far apart? As I mentioned in a previous post, I doubt UNC moves up 6 spots in a close loss to you guys, but that doesn't mean we aren't fairly close.

Anyhow, my prediction is that you guys win. I think UNC has a legitimate shot though, provided some dumbass painted in dark blue doesn't have a long enough arm to actually deflect a UNC pass.

UNC seeding might be even better if UK wasn't tanking the end of the season. That win isn't so shiny now.

No I don't think they are that far apart at all. How can I after a couple of weeks ago and your 12 game ACC win streak? I was just commenting that you all have squeaked by in your last 3 games against sub-quality opponents. Granted 2 games were on the road and 1 being a rival, but basically every game has been a one possession outcome. I don't think UNC can win Saturday if they continue playing like they have for the past week. Nothing shocks me in this game though.

BTW are any of you UNC guys familiar with their Co/Offensive coordinator Gunter Brewer? He has some James Franklin qualities on Twitter. Thought he was kind of a prick.
