Uniform/Helmet/Shoe design thread (merged)

I wonder if Aggie fans gripe this much about Adidas? Notre Dame? I actually thought the Orange on Orange look today was killer.

I did like the orange on orange something different, but I like the orange jersey on white pants more I guess cause it's traditional, and for the away I love the white on white cause if the new font color and style,

However I do think it would be cool to have some kind of unique uni.. That is worn one game a year like a flat black or dark grey with orange stripes and font,

wait is this about the team wearing orange pants or fans wearing orange pants?

Because my orange pants are going nowhere, just like opportunity.

But for real, I do love wearing those pants.

Well this thread has gone south in a hurry.

What's sad is that most people don't seem to care or want to move on from the topic.

Myself (and every person I talked to about it) loved the all orange uni's. They were nasty, I hope they use them this year.

For all u so called vols for life, our original jerseys were black. They did not change until around 1915 ( ithink) to Orange. Come on , know your vol history !

Agree with the OP. I hate the Orange on Orange. Keep it Orange on white, and white on white!

Since you insist, let's set the historical record straight. Yes, there was a period in which black jerseys (with orange accents) were worn by the University of Tennessee, but orange and white have been the OFFICIAL school colors almost from the beginning of our football program. “Tennessee's orange and white colors were selected by Charles Moore, a member of the first football team in 1891. They were later approved by a student body vote” (UTSPORTS.COM - University of Tennessee Athletics - Fans).

Here (University of Tennessee Volunteers Football Uniform and Team History | Heritage Uniforms and Jerseys), in chronological sequence, are fourteen of the uniform combinations worn by Tennessee since the inception of its football program in 1891. Proponents of the all-white look will note that, in 1892, we wore white pants and laced-up jerseys with a simple orange “UT” lettered across the front. It is difficult to precisely establish the chronological parameters during which black was the primary color of jerseys. This source (TNJN - Tennessee football uniform history), however, indicates that they were worn from 1911 to 1920, and the aforementioned mural depicts a black jersey with contrasting elbow and shoulder patches and an orange "T" on the chest, which is attributed to 1903.

Historical sources also disagree in terms of precisely when we first began to consistently wear orange jerseys. This document (TNJN - Tennessee football uniform history), published by the University of Tennessee School of Journalism and Electronic Media, indicates that "In 1927 the Vols decided to correspond more with the school's colors of orange and white and wore the first orange jerseys, and have been wearing them ever since." Perhaps, that statement simply reflects an official declaration of policy, one that validated several prior years of the usage of orange jerseys.

UT's Athletics Department's website (UTSPORTS.COM - University of Tennessee Athletics - Fans) states, on the other hand, that "Tennessee football players did not wear orange jerseys until the season-opening game in 1922. Coach M.B. Banks' Vols won that game over Emory and Henry by a score of 50-0." Finally, this mural (University of Tennessee Volunteers Football Uniform and Team History | Heritage Uniforms and Jerseys) depicts an orange jersey with white rectangular panels, which is attributed to 1925.

It is probably safe to say that orange jerseys have been consistently worn since no later than 1927 and were worn, without official sanction, for several years prior to that. In any event, this pushes the span during which orange jerseys have been part of Tennessee's football uniform back to no less than 85 years, and perhaps as much as 91. That definitely qualifies as longstanding, deeply entrenched tradition, far more so than the short-lived period during which black jerseys were worn.

ORANGE PANTS ARE NOT GARBAGE!!! So-called Tennessee fans who want to minimize orange as part of our color scheme and stridently advocate black in lieu of it, well that is a matter open to debate.

I love the orange pants but I also wouldn't mind a throwback uni if it was well designed and only used for something special like a homecoming game or an anniversary event. The very old black shirts with orange rings around the arms looked good but designers would have to be really careful to capture it in a modern uni.

All that said, I don't think we wear ALL ORANGE enough.

Seriously...I just do not get it. 4 of the top 10 winningest football programs have Adidas.

This is not a bad group to be with.

Indiana Hoosiers
Kansas Jayhawks
Louisville Cardinals
Michigan Wolverines
Nebraska Cornhuskers
Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Texas A&M Aggies
UCLA Bruins
Wisconsin Badgers

I'm willing to bet it has a lot less to do with what our unis look like and a lot more to do with having a swoosh on their T shirt
