One thing I'm surprised doesn't get mentioned is the pink gloves, tape, arm bands and mouth pieces in October. I understand it's breast cancer awareness month, and I hate cancer (one of those things that touches everyone at some point or another), but the pink looks bad with the Orange.
How about a simple pink ribbon on the jersey?! Tennessee football players wearing pink ultimately does nothing to cure cancer. I understand the argument that it raises awareness and shows appreciation, but a pink ribbon would do the same.
I can't wait til a cure is found.
Not sure about college but I'm pretty sure than every one of those pink garments they wear in the NFL is auctioned off for cancer. So it does do some good for cancer.
It doesn't look great but I guess it just doesn't bother me either :dunno:
I think literally everyone is aware of breast cancer
I've always wondered why not some other cancer, why is it always breast cancer? Breast Cancer isn't even the only cancer supposedly represented by the month of October. Between September and November there are 15 other cancers one could easily support. Including Childhood Cancer, Prostate Cancer, Lung Cancer,Leukemia, just to name a few. I think the reason the NFL and College football so easily get behind it is that men can get behind saving the ta tas. And that Breast Cancer is easily screened for. I get that. I question the practice of spending so much money on pink merchandise when the money could go towards actual research or to those fighting with cancer. I think it has become a marketing ploy to make money for companies, none of which will go towards actual prevention. I'm glad we can support those who are fighting breast cancer and I'm not advocating that we should stop any kind of awareness campaigns, I just question the overall effectiveness of such things. However I would gladly be wrong about this if it can be shown to make a real difference. But still why only Breast Cancer?
There just needs to be a CANCER month. Just doing breast cancer or other female cancers is sexist since male cancers don't get their own month.

November is prostate cancer awareness month. You know that whole "no shave November" thing? I'm sure you've heard of it.

I think the pink gear has become such a big thing because it's a way for players to honor those close to them who have been affected by breast cancer. I know DeAngelo Williams is very supportive of the pink gear because many women in his life have had breast cancer.
