Uniform/Helmet/Shoe design thread (merged)

That is what I remember as well. I want to say we did not have as much control over the Alt uniforms and we would have one every year. It's been a while though so I might be remembering it wrong. Assuming I am not having a mental lapse the normal uniforms should be fine but the Alts scare me. I will probably like most of them but we are bound to get a stinker eventually.

Pretty sure this is accurate. We will have the norms. But little control, if any, over alternate uniforms. Adidas, again going off of memory here, gave is final say on everything we wore.

That was my understanding of the Adidas deal. They really treated us as a priority. Nike seems to have given us a better deal than what was offered the last go around. But, I don't think it was as good as the Adidas deal. Again, I'm just going on what DP and others have said, I don't have any inside info. But it seems we paid a price to wear the swoosh. Time will tell if the recruiting benefits materialize. I'm sure it will help basketball. I'm not sold on it making much difference for football though.

UT has final say on "regular" uniform designs in football, men's and women's basketball, baseball and softball. Alternates are pretty much at Nike's discretion. They present options, but UT is contractually bound to wear alternates at times as part of postseason programs. Things like that. They probably won't saddle UT with anything they ultimately don't want.

DP will you give us a behind the scenes glimpse of the never ending alternate helmet saga? A lot of people said it was going to happen last year.

Administration wanted to stick by its previous statement of keeping the traditional helmet.

There's a alternate helmet designed to go with the Smokey gray alternate, but there was also one for the previous sets that was never worn. It was never even ordered.

Wonder if under the obligations you previously mentioned about Nike and alternates will finally make the alternate helmet a reality.

I know this is off topic and super random, but I don't want to start a thread : DP, I know you're connected in some way with the university, so do you know if alcohol will be served in Nashville week 1? Thanks.

My alternative helmet would be honoring the 75th anniversary of the 1940 team with an orange helmet with a white cross across the top. Leather of course.

This year Halloween is on a Saturday but the game is at Kentucky --- anyone think Nike will do something for that game ?

Probably not since it's an away game. If anything happens, I think it will be either UGA, SCar, or Vandy.

I'm s Nike fan I'll admit. I don't think we're gonna see the whole sell changes everyone is freaking out about. We still hold true to our tradition. You can look at the othe SEC schools that are Nike such as UF, UGA, ALA. they hold to their tradition. I think it will be similar to 2013 the main 4 combos we all are use to. With one special combo like the smokey grey.

Anyway the real reason I wanted to comment it seems like all were mentioning is from the fans point of view. Let's not forget about the players. Most players who have worn Nike say it's the most comfortable uni, especially when it comes to football cleats. Not to mention the equipment stuff like footballs, I've heard several QBs prefer the Nike footballs: let's keep in mind this is also about the student athlete not to please the fans

No, because while Nike (or adidas) may design a helmet, they do not pay for the the school to order it, so the school isn't obligated to. If a school wants a special design for a helmet, Nike will work with Hydrographics, Inc. to design and execute it. But the school is responsible for the cost, which is around $400-500 per helmet, depending on the design and texture. Since you need at least 120 helmets, that gets expensive.

Yes. Since it's an off-campus event put on by the Music City Bowl, it will be sold.
