Uniform/Helmet/Shoe design thread (merged)

Those iconic gray scrubs have become Nike's marketing scam of the decade! Illinois introduced them as "gray ghost" to honor Red Grange. Then Minnesota used them as "grey wolf" vs Michigan over the weekend. The marketing genius at Nike even used the UT orange numbers and convinced the gopher fans that it was a merger of their maroon and gold!

I honestly hope UT puts them in a closet and donates them to 3rd world orphans instead of wearing them on the field again.

How about you go away instead.

Also, UGa did it a few years back in the opening game that year and got hosed. Those uni's were hideous though. OIK is right, we had the Gray's with Adidas. It's nothing new. OSU Cowboys comes to mind as a school who has been wearing Gray for a few years now. Usually to mark a big game. As Minn and Illi mentioned in the OP. It's a change. It's not permanent, that's why it' s called an Alternate Uni.
Heard this weekend UGA complaining they've been cursed ever since their alter unis a few years ago.lol

Boo!

I like Butch but I doubt he came up with the gray jerseys.

I do think the Nike ones should be "retired" though

I think Butch did have a little bit to do with the Gray jerseys. I know the players loved the Black jerseys on Halloween against SCar back when Kiffin was here and they wanted an alternative jersey after seeing all these other schools (UGA, Oregon, Florida, Boise State) break out new jerseys. Butch said he did some research and found out that the Gray was part of the University Colors so he would be ok with trying to make that work but he wanted there to be some sort of tie into the University and not just be a fashion statement.

I am a fan of the Grays and I dont mind seeing them once/possibly twice a year.

He thought of it because gray is color of mortar and you can't get bricks to stay in place without mortar. It's all part of the process.

They're awesome.

Players love them.

We're keeping them.

Don't like it?

Learn to love it.

Woo.

Players don't like them, and they are going away. Realize you are wrong. Woo is not part of Rocky Top so just go back under your bridge.

This is the point where Butch realized this fanbase would believe anything he says.

:lolabove:Really, get over yourself...kids like them and that's all I need to recruit like we have been.

Players and recruits like alternate uniforms. I prefer grey to black - everybody has black now. At least grey is different than the rest.

That must be why Alabama always leads the recruiting. It's their gray jerseys. What is a player supposed to do? Tell CBJ he's an idiot?

When you are trying to rebuild a program that was a dumpster fire you should and must do anything within reason to turn it around. It's a great marketing tool. The situation at Alabama is completely different and you know it. If we had a Nick Saban or Urban Meyer we wouldnt need gimmicks either but Butch is trying to build something and doing alternative unis gives us exposure. Other schools have been able to do it and have better success then they had in the past, and while it doesn't always work, why not try anything to get back to being on top (within the rules of course)?

I understand wanting to maintain tradition but having an alternative uni once or twice a year doesn't hurt anything. And like it or not it's now apart of our history, the fact we won against UGA in them means they are probably here to stay, so get used to it.

Go Vols!

Oregon doesn't have "alternate unis." They have a "wardrobe." Lol!
