Those iconic gray scrubs have become Nike's marketing scam of the decade! Illinois introduced them as "gray ghost" to honor Red Grange. Then Minnesota used them as "grey wolf" vs Michigan over the weekend. The marketing genius at Nike even used the UT orange numbers and convinced the gopher fans that it was a merger of their maroon and gold!
I honestly hope UT puts them in a closet and donates them to 3rd world orphans instead of wearing them on the field again.
Heard this weekend UGA complaining they've been cursed ever since their alter unis a few years ago.lolAlso, UGa did it a few years back in the opening game that year and got hosed. Those uni's were hideous though. OIK is right, we had the Gray's with Adidas. It's nothing new. OSU Cowboys comes to mind as a school who has been wearing Gray for a few years now. Usually to mark a big game. As Minn and Illi mentioned in the OP. It's a change. It's not permanent, that's why it' s called an Alternate Uni.

I like Butch but I doubt he came up with the gray jerseys.
I do think the Nike ones should be "retired" though

I think Butch did have a little bit to do with the Gray jerseys. I know the players loved the Black jerseys on Halloween against SCar back when Kiffin was here and they wanted an alternative jersey after seeing all these other schools (UGA, Oregon, Florida, Boise State) break out new jerseys. Butch said he did some research and found out that the Gray was part of the University Colors so he would be ok with trying to make that work but he wanted there to be some sort of tie into the University and not just be a fashion statement.
I am a fan of the Grays and I dont mind seeing them once/possibly twice a year.

That must be why Alabama always leads the recruiting. It's their gray jerseys. What is a player supposed to do? Tell CBJ he's an idiot?
