Uniform/Helmet/Shoe design thread (merged)

Yeah, those Orange "T's" even the thinner ones, were on a WHITE helmet. All of the additions that have become a part of our traditions center around Orange and White. Try again.

he's not talking about the colors. he's talking about adding to traditions. haven't you seen all the schools running alternate jerseys? often with more prominent secondary colors. notre dame, nebraska, ohio state, and oklahoma all have alternates at some point this year. all are in the top ten all time college football wins, all steeped in very much tradition. very, very few schools have not used an alternate uni and most of those few are already considering designs for them in the near future (southern cal comes to mind).

I say wear Orange at their place. We did it in the 60's a time or two. Looked pretty cool from the pictures I've seen.

UNtil the NCAA mandate that road teams wear white, we always wore orange both home and away. The 71 away jerseys with the orange yoke were an attempt to keep more orange in the road jerseys.

Very true. They all have two colors in common, Orange and White. Not orange and gray or white, orange and gray. Just Orange and White. They all symbolize the core traditions based on those two colors.

Well it seems to me that ya might just wanna go ahead n add that Smokey Grey color to your list of traditions cause I think it's gonna be around for a while!!!!! Coach Butch Jones has put his mark on Tennessee football forever like all the other greats have!!

Darn, a new tradition....... Wow, can't believe it........... Many more will follow over time

Who likes the grey helmet, white jersey, and grey pants?

Is there any difficulty with this: NO! My Vols are O&W. I hate the grays. It looks like another team on the field. Call me old fashion or an old foogey but I am an O&W guy.
Its almost like you can appreciate the simplicity and beauty of the traditional uniforms and still like to change it up with a good looking alternate every once in a while. Crazy right?

We have. But with almost everything in the game of football, anything before "modern football" is not taken as Gospel. And "modern football" is after 1932, so fact check yourself on what they have worn in the modern age of the game.

Well maybe by this standard we are moving into the next era of the game? I'm just not sure what the big deal is as long as Orange and White remain our primary unis.

I am for wearing the orange jerseys 12 games a year and taking the penalties. We very rarely wore white until 1971 when Beat Bryant complained to the SEC. WE need to throw it in their face.

Because you can't...if a tradition can be destroyed by wearing an alternate? It's a piss poor tradition! :aggressive:
Never said it could be. It was a statement of implication. The action or state of being involved in something.

Do I really need to explain this?

I guess we will just have to wait and see. Are you normally a smart ass or just here on the forum?

Because we've had a whopping 2 years of gray jerseys, and people are already starting to say "let's wear them with the white jerseys". It's gone from 1 game every few years (a Halloween game), to 1 game a year, to mixing the combinations to multiple games. If you give a mouse a cookie. At this rate, there'll be a new combination every game.

How do you explain...that which cannot be explained? :matrix:

Amen. Dickey's name should ever be removed from Vol lore for putting those giant gaudy Ts on our helmets!

Nowhere is gray an official color. It is the suggested font color for marketing materials. (There are also about 15 other "official" marketing colors too. Would you like a nice green uniform, it's one of the colors.) The only two official colors of the university are orange and white.

Bryant is not why we started wearing white. The NCAA mandated it because of TV. BTW that rule has been changed and teams can wear whatever colors they agree on among themselves.

According to this link, orange, followed by white and gray, are the school's official color pallet
