Uniform/Helmet/Shoe design thread (merged)

There have been several posters saying we need completely new uniforms and repeatedly posting the ugliest garbage I've ever seen as their proposals, including but not limited to orange jerseys with black outlines on the numbers, orange helmets with black power Ts, etc.

I've seen the mock ups, some that were ok and others that weren't...good. But don't recall anyone saying they want new color schemes. We get new uniforms every year with minor changes.

I'm not going through 64 pages of this thread and digging up the old one to post a link for you. If it's that important look it up yourself.

I really haven't and I've been reading this thread for a long long time. Maybe I just don't remember well but the ones I do remember advocating an alternate is for one, maybe two games a year.

Ok, think about how many people have grown up hearing about the sea of orange, the Pride, Vol Walk, etc, and their very first game is a game with a gimmick black jersey. I remember my first game, and it would not be the same glorious memory if they wore that garbage Kiffin put on the field. Every game is SOMEONE'S first, and possibly only, game. Why deprive them of what Tennessee really is?

No problem. Relax. I just don't remember anyone saying they want to revamp our entire uniform scheme.

i concur 100%. It electrified Neyland and we won BECAUSE of black jerseys. Play the game ten times in orange,we lose 8. Just saying. ALTS CAN EFFECT OUTCOME! I recommend them for the UGA and SCAR games. We could, and should, wear road alts @ Ore&Fla. If we win, wear @Bama. GO VOLS!

Very first page wants alternate jerseys for 4-5 times this year. There's enough proof what allowing gimmicks into the program does.

I'm not disagreeing with that logic. However, what Tennessee really is, today, isn't what it has been in the past, uniform wise, or what it will be in the future. Some people's first game saw the team take the field in black or gray or tan. They endured change. The traditions we have at UT haven't been there since the program began. Things have been added, taken away, altered and tweaked.
I agree that the Kiffin black uni's were ugly. Not because they were black but because they looked thrown together.
I'm not for changing everything but I'm not adamantly against it because change happens. If it didn't we wouldn't have the majority of things so many are fighting to hold onto.

Ok, well, for every game they don't wear orange and white, the band should not play Rocky Top and the groundscrew should paint something other than checkerboards in the endzones. Those have been around long enough and change happens. Let's just go ahead and do it.

I'm not saying we should ever not have orange and white in our scheme.

I'm not saying take those things away completely. But what if for one game a year, there was no Rocky Top or no checkerboard endzones. Or, if the team wears black and orange, put black and orange in the endzones and no Rocky Top for that game. Sound good?

Anyone who says we beat SC that night BECAUSE of the black jerseys deserves to never be taken seriously ever again.

Nope. And a totally obscure argument. I've never said change the uniform so that it doesn't have any resemblance to what we have or have had in the past. I've never said eliminate orange and white. Now to put it in perspective, if the band added a riff in the middle of the song to shake it up a little bit every bow and then I would be fine with it. There are many versions of rockytop and although they aren't the original they are catchy and entertaining.

So you are a fan of the "Woooo!"? ;)

There's been several that have stated we need an overhaul on our uniforms, and claim we're falling behind programs like Oregon because we're not "cutting edge". Most of them are the same who keep saying we need to dump Adidas for Nike.

The question is do you want them to get rid of those things? The song...the checkerboards? I'm certain the first year they were introduced there were "traditionalists" who were very much against them because what they had before was the "tradition".

There wouldn't be any white on a black and orange uniform, minus the numbers, which doesn't count due to every dark jersey in the country having them. So, for one game a year, you took away something that is synonymous with Tennessee, and I proposed the same thing. Nothing obscure about it.

And that's their opinion. Doesn't make it wrong.

What's wrong with an overhaul anyway? I overhauled my engine and kept the core but added a few components to make it better. The core of the engine was unchanged but it sure ran better.

Ok, we will keep the core of the name Tennessee, get rid of the orange and white, no checkerboards, no Rocky Top, change the name of the stadium, just give the whole program a complete overhaul.

Just reading his posts he's basically for overhauling literally everything, which is beyond stupid. My guess is he's below the age of 16.

He just likes to argue everything to the extreme which is ignorant. By his thinking or logic we should still be wearing the same uniform we first stepped on the field with in the 1800's because change is BAD and the stadium should still only seat 2500.
Sadly, I'm not wanting to change anything or at least any major things but I understand subtle changes happen from year to year and that coming out in an alternate wouldn't be the end of the world for a game.

You just said it. SUBTLE changes. Wearing a black jersey is not subtle. Wearing an orange with a bit more white piping on it is subtle. But, of course, if you give a mouse a cookie...

I agree. Black would not be subtle. Neither was going from a plain end zone to an orange and white checkered one...but we sure do love it now!

Just take the darn T off the helmet, cause it twernt always on there.
I'm all for tradition but please.

I'm not even sure if that was directed at me or not.
I think I may be being misunderstood. I'm not saying change change change. I'm not saying I want black uniforms. All I'm saying is there are people arguing that we shouldn't have anything different then what we have right now because it isn't "traditional" and then use certain traditional things as examples of what makes our school so wonderful. Many of those things are fairly new in the grand scheme of things.
