Uniform/Helmet/Shoe design thread (merged)

this picture seems like the state emblem is on the shoulder why is there a seem down the back?

SIAP.

I am looking at my game worn jersey from 2011 that is hanging in my office. There is a seam down the middle of the back starting at the collar and going down maybe four inches. At the terminus of that seam it meets a horizontal seam that appears to run to the shoulder panels. I can't see where the horizontal goes due to the way my jersey is hung, but I can definitely see the vertical seam on the back.

This is probably true. However the one tiny shred of redeeming light during his tenure IMO was his commitment to upholding our longstanding look with regards to uniforms. Jones clearly doesn't share that same commitment, but as with most things, winning will make even the most abominable of uniforms more palatable.

I just don't see how any of the changes mentioned here will be any more extraordinary than many of the subtle changes that we see year to year.

How many threads were started last year when the SEC logo went from the old football logo on a triangle to the new circle? How many really noticed that change?

This stuff is a tempest in a teapot. He isn't abandoning the Tennessee brand. He is augmenting it.

Besides, our history is full of uniform changes. Some good and some bad.

Look at this link and see how many times the helmet has changed.

https://www.facebook.com/media/set/...073741845.532264803463358&type=1&l=3a5fb1138f

Notice the addition of the T, the subtraction of the T in favor of numbers. Grey facemasks, white facemasks, orange stripe of different thicknesses, an orange stripe with a white stripe. Changes happen frequently and if done correctly, most people won't ever really notice yet the uniforms will stay fresh.

From the sounds of this, our uniforms are just being updated.

I will reserve judgment on the alternates, but I like the sound of the light grey away uniform as a one-off event.

I question the commitment of any player who selects a school because he likes the uniforms. As long as it is Tennessee orange and white with a T on the helmet I'm good to go.

These days 17 and 18 year old boys are as style conscious as girls ever were.:twocents:

Seriously?!?!? It's really not that big of a change. And why not an alternate uni once or twice for the players. Its really not about you or any of us at all. One of the alternates is probable an all orange uni or something like that. It will be ok.

Is there a picture of the alternate unis for the Oregon game?

+1. I said the other day that Jones hadn't set a foot wrong since arriving in Knoxville, and that streak lasted for about 4 more days. To me, the complete overhaul of the away uniforms plus alternates in TWO games is an embarrassment. At least we'll get to enjoy the traditional look for 6 of the 12 games. I'm afraid the is just the first in a series if steps that sees us toss our long time, easily identifiable aesthetic brand out the window for good.

Complete overhaul of the away uniforms? Really? Drama queens are laughable to me.

The "Tennessee" on the chest is going to be very small, about the size of the team name word mark on many NFL jerseys, if not smaller. It will look fine.

The checkerboard pattern will be EXTREMELY subtle. You likely wouldn't know it was there if not for this thread.

If you get a second, can you glance at the pictures from the other uni thread that have uploaded from the patch that NCAA football got this morning? The team name on the away jersey is quite a bit bigger than you expected it to be. Did they just get it wrong? Your info is usually very reliable and I was just curious. Also, are they correct in that the black outline has been removed?

It's bigger than the renderings I had seen made it appear, more like the size of what Cincinnati wore last year.

I've seen numbers with and without the outline, so I can't tell you what will be on field. We should see the real uniforms fairly soon.

Without the black outline, the jersey is almost indistinguishable from Texas' from a distance. Was that possibly one of the factors in deciding to put the name on the front?

The meltdown for essentially nothing being changed is amazing to me. A few small things and people on here go ballistic. I think this is why I want black uniforms, because this website would be an aneurism fest.

You done yet

You done being an ******* yet?

Seemed like a fairly reasonable question to me. If they decided to eliminate the black outline, which would be a welcome change IMO, and realized it looked almost identical to Texas, I was just curious if that was a factor in the decision to add the name to the front so it could be easily distinguished.

A this point I want a damn metallic orange uniform just to see everyoe lose their minds. How about we worry about putting a winning team on the field and less about the uniforms that they will be wearing...

I would hope Texas wasn't a consideration in anyway to making Tennessee's uniforms.

I know I'm probably in the minority, but I like the black outline on the numbers. There's not a lot of contrast between our shade of orange and white, and the black helps give the numbers definition. It's less of an issue now with HD TV, but I still like it better with the outline.

Good lord...I think bleedorange0037 is going to have to be on suicide watch! I've never seen anything like this over changes this subtle....

I do hope they keep the black outline....although I won't cut myself or anything if they get rid of it.

omg somebody shoot me.

Some people, especially you cheese man, are way too sensitive. It's an honest question. Why would one invest resources into a marketing product (be honest with yourself, beyond being equipment, that's what jerseys are) that will be unseen? Just doesn't make sense. Is the "subtle" design supposed to make us so much faster no one will catch a glimpse of it?

By the way, I'm referring to the checkerboard design in the letters. Not the state name and outline.
