Uniform/Helmet/Shoe design thread (merged)

The sooner UT re-ups with adidas the better.

The belief that Nike, and even more laughably Under Armour, would cure all these perceived uniform ills is getting so old.

Want to be lumped (deal wise) with Ole Miss and South Florida? Fine, keep pining for those brands.

FINNALLY, something I disagree with from CBJ!! Glad it's just uniform stuff and nothing important. I can't find anything else with CBJ's work to complain about...life is good!!

Agree 100%. If what DP posted in the other thread about limited design control for everyone other than the elite Nike schools, then we have no business even taking meetings, much less bids from them. Clearly from watching the past few years, Alabama, Texas, USC and maybe a couple others are above Nike's "wear what we tell you to law" but we're not in any sort of position to expect that level of treatment from them. Hopefully UT will avoid Nike like the plague.

+1. I said the other day that Jones hadn't set a foot wrong since arriving in Knoxville, and that streak lasted for about 4 more days. To me, the complete overhaul of the away uniforms plus alternates in TWO games is an embarrassment. At least we'll get to enjoy the traditional look for 6 of the 12 games. I'm afraid the is just the first in a series if steps that sees us toss our long time, easily identifiable aesthetic brand out the window for good.

Some of you are acting like we rehired Dooley when it comes to very minor changes to the unis.

I betting this will be what the "TENNESSEE" will look like on the away jerseys.
It seems to be what adidas uses the most when they spell out Tennessee.

Which I really like that look!

I would love the new jersey without even seeing it if that was the "font" that was used. The article talks about it being in script though which usually means some sort of cursive. I have seen some script that wasn't cursive when it used all caps however.

The changes to the front of the away uniform are anything but minor. I like the addition of the state outline on the collars of both jerseys. That, as you said is a minor tweak. Adding a script "Tennessee" that takes up a huge portion of the front if the jersey isn't a tweak, it's a MAJOR change.

So when are these uniforms going to be unveiled.

Are there any pics of them yet?

If so can someone post the pics?
This is the only thing seen so for (showing the small outline of the state above the names) and due to the texture seen in the jersey it is believed this is from a orange "Camo" type jersey that will be the special jersey we are going to wear for one home game.

An official release with press conference will likely be later this week or next going by what DP has said.

I love our uniforms, but there have been tasteful tweaks made to them for one hundred years. You're blowing this out of proportion a bit.

Let's face it, our shade of orange is the very definition of "tacky." Not sure how much tackier they could possibly look! :)

Sheer, unadulterated heresy!!! Tennessee orange is a far prettier shade of orange than that worn by any other college football program and it certainly is one of the most recognizable team colors in all of sports.

Lighten up Francis.
The "traditional look" you speak of has changed dozens of times over the years. I would hardly say adding the state on the front is an overhaul. Everything else will be relatively the same as your idea of traditional.

The state is going on the back collar above the players names, and I've said multiple times that I think that is a nice addition. What I'm against is filling up any unused real estate in the front of the jersey with a script "Tennessee". I just think its going to be too much and that script font is better served on baseball jerseys.

The shape of the state yes; its going in the back, as well as the state (name of) on the front. I still think that's a LONG way from an overhaul. Of the other jerseys I've seen with that on it, I liked the look and there was still plenty of unused "real estate".
Here's an idea though. I know this is impossible for some, but let's try waiting and seeing before rushing to judgement on stuff we know nothing about. A hundred people will imagine the same description a hundred different ways. Let's wait until the product is unveiled before bashing what we THINK it might look like.
CBJ isn't an idiot and I seriously doubt he's going to approve of something that doesn't look good. Not to mention I'm sure he isn't deciding on it alone.
The idea of TENNESSEE in script doesn't sound that appealing to me actually but like I stated before, I've seen script fonts that weren't what I imagined script to be. It looked like a normal font. We just don't know so why get all uptight and pissy about it.

Thought I would leave the here...

TRADITIONAL

Adjective

-Existing in or as part of a tradition; long-established.

I'm starting to think the people clamoring over tradition don't even know what Tennessee's tradition is.

We've been losing for close to a decade now... Howabout we fire Jones, rehire Dooley, and just call it a tradition!

After all, if we have been doing it for a while, it is a timeless tradition that we must protect with our lives.

7th place in the East! Let's go!
