Color does objectively matter in one aspect:
Dress for
maximum contrast against your opponent's colors when you're the faster or more aggressive team. You want your QB to have instant recognition of where DBs are in relation to your receivers. On defense, you want your LBs to recognize from just a glimpse where the RB is running behind a big offensive line.
Conversely, if you're the larger but slower team, it's to your advantage to wear colors that blend in with your opponent's colors, to promote that extra split second of indecision by your quicker opponent.
So our orange britches would work best on the road against teams with a contrasting color, like blue, green, or purple.

But don't wear the orange britches against teams in similar colors, like red, red-orange, brown-orange, or gold.
