Obviously not the majority of Memphisians. Last time I checked, Herrington is still in an elected position.

In the average year I make between 5 and 10 trips to Memphis. I've been doing that for the better part of 15 years. My point is simple: Trying to hold elected officials accountable for the criminal actions of individuals is ludicrous.

I lived in Memphis for 3 1/2 years and this story doesn't surprise me. Very sad for the player and his family, but just another day in Memphis.

Herrington is still the man because he is supported by the racial majority, which also happens to be the least educated and most ignorant demographic of the city.

I'm not going any further than that though. I come here for football not politics.

Have u seen what Guillaini did with NYC? , and i believe bloomberg is still doing it , not sure but there have been many mayors that have straightened up cities that have been plaqued with this type of crap Memphians have been dealing with for a long long time, and myrobbins hit the nail on the head, You my friend stop by now and then u don't live here so i would say u know nothing about the day to day lives Memphians put up with.

No it is not a shot at anyone. Was just saying if it is a day to day struggle to live in any place, I would move away from that place.

Its really too bad. Memphis is cool in a lot of ways, just a pervasive negative feeling because of the crime.

No, but I've spent copious amounts of time there.

That is just it you don't live here. I don't care how much time you spend in FedEx Forum, that doesn't equal living here everyday.

The mayor has taken administrative power away from the police dept. They can not promote anyone without the mayor's approval, which means anybody not on Willie's gameplan doesn't get promoted. This has killed the morale of the police dept. City Hall has also restricted police authority to pursue KNOWN criminals. Some officers have been reduced to using their cell phones to coordinate pursuits. Keep in mind these are instances of police not being allowed to arrest KNOWN criminals, not suspects. The police dept. has been hamstrung by the mayor's office for a long time.

Also under Herenton, MLG&W, the Memphis utility company has gone from one of the best city run utilities to the worst, this according to JD Power and Associates. During this time the mayor has approved only the hire of his own cronies to run said utility and wanted to sell the utility, a sale which would have made the mayor a lot of money.

If you love the mayor so much then why don't you live here? Probably because you realize like so many others that have left that the mayor is running this town into the Sh**er, and profiting handsomely from it.

Thanks for your wonderfully ignorant insight Hat.

I guarantee I know more about day to day life in Memphis than you do about anything related to New York City.

If I were offered a job in Memphis making what I am in South Florida, I'd consider it. At the end of the day, people get the government and the neighborhoods they deserve. People who sit around waiting for some governmental savior to ride in on a white horse get the lives they're worthy of having.

I did.

Kiddiedoc did.

Actually, my 3 best friends from that town all moved away.

Im sure many many others have too.

I will be moving in the not too distant future. I don't want my kids spending their entire youth in this city.

Majority vote is not required. Just the most votes. Big difference. Actually in recent polls he only has 24% of votes, with the other 2 main candidates getting 19%. So you can see he doesn't have the majority.
