Majority vote is not required. Just the most votes. Big difference. Actually in recent polls he only has 24% of votes, with the other 2 main candidates getting 19%. So you can see he doesn't have the majority.
Still getting elected. If his opponents and their supporters were so sickened by the state of the city, wouldn't it make sense to band together and use this majority you claim exists to remove Herrington from office?

I did.

Kiddiedoc did.

Actually, my 3 best friends from that town all moved away.

Im sure many many others have too.

My mom and step-dad just moved back to Knoxville last month to get out of Memphis. It's her hometown but they just began to hate the city.

The voters in this town are rowing with one oar in the water. How many years did they re-elect Harold Ford and John Ford? I would elect a Chia Pet before either of those...

Alot of cities have the same problem, but Memphis has mayor who thinks he's bigger than life, and he thinks he cant do anything about the crime problem here, i believe someone can.

If I were offered a job in Memphis making what I am in South Florida, I'd consider it. At the end of the day, people get the government and the neighborhoods they deserve. People who sit around waiting for some governmental savior to ride in on a white horse get the lives they're worthy of having.

That is just what the people who vote for Herenton have gotten. The violent crimes effect his constituency a lot more than they effect those who don't vote for him. I hate to break everything down to race, but it doesn't take long in this town to realize that is what everything boils down to. He keeps getting elected for no other reason than he is black. Yet it is the predominately black neighborhoods that have suffered the most in his time as mayor. He continually says that he has helped Memphis business by building the Forum and downtown ballpark. But as far as I can tell it is only the rich and middle class that get to enjoy these amenities, and they do not create enough year round jobs to help the lower class gain employment. Herenton is only interested in helping himself and his good friends that get the contracts to build his wonderful projects. That said the mayor is not nearly the only problem in our government. There are many other corrupt officials in office, and quite a few under federal indictment.

Hat, I am sure from your travel tales that you make enough money to avoid the real problems of Memphis if you lived here. Unfortunately it is the people that don't make that much money who suffer and they are the ones who continue to support him. That is the irony of their ignorance.

I couldn't agree more.... I lived in Memphis for years, when it was a wonderful and exciting place to live... the changes started and none for the better... My son was robbed at gunpoint near the Pyramid, my house, when up for sale, was broken into... My MIL still lives there near the Old Kennedy Hospital, I cringe going back and hearing shots in the night and we worry so about her..
When my FIL was in St. Francis our vehicle was broken into at the motel on Mt. Moriah... we don't take anything of value or drive anything of value when we go to Memphis... couldn't pay me enough money to move back there...

GO VOLS... GO BIG ORANGE ....

No, you're the one who postulated a theory that someone was followed from a casino in Mississippi and shot. You then proceeded to say that incident somehow reflects on an elected official in Memphis, Tennessee.

He's never had a black opponent? Is there some local ordinance banning other African Americans from running against him?
There is another African American gentleman running so we will see what happens i believe i will be voting for this gentleman, his stance on crime will be a big selling point for me his name is Herman Morris, Hat since u know so much i thought u would know this?

Uhm not by the FBI report. Memphis #1 in crime??? That sounds like a country club to me..

maybe - but I doubt it. Memphis had over 3 times the population as New Orleans in 2006, but New Orleans had more murders.

2006 murder rate tops in nation - Breaking News Updates New Orleans - Times-Picayune - NOLA.com

Memphis, Tennessee - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

luckily, the murders are almost always in a fairly small geographical area - namely the projects and the area immidiately surrounding them.

Another interesting Memphis fun fact. With roughly the same greater metropolitan area as Austin, Texas, (1.3+ million) Memphis averages as many murders in one month as Austin does in the entire year.
