There is another African American gentleman running so we will see what happens i believe i will be voting for this gentleman, his stance on crime will be a big selling point for me his name is Herman Morris, Hat since u know so much i thought u would know this?
I was asking a rhetorical question of the poster who said Herenton wins strictly because of skin color. I'm never a fan of elected officials staying in office for decades at a time. Mr. Morris, or any other competent candidate, should have an advantage in this election. However, we'll see how actually upset the electorate is in Memphis.

Another interesting Memphis fun fact. With roughly the same greater metropolitan area as Austin, Texas, (1.3+ million) Memphis averages as many murders in one month as Austin does in the entire year.
That's a shame. I would be in favor of a lot more murders in Austin, Texas.

I always thought it was funny in college when people like myself (from Nashville), Chattanoogan's, Knoxvillians, Clarksvillians, Murfreesboroians and Tri-Citians would always think of ourselves as Tennesseans, and those from Memphis, Memphians. Even more interesting is that those from Memphis thought the same thing.

I'm so glad i came here to debate Memphis politics with Mr. Hat i'm glad he's keeping me so informed on what is going on with The City Of Memphis while he's in South Florida making a six figured salary while staying on a condo by the beach:worship:

Contrary to what most people think about the current sad state of affairs in Memphis, I'm proud that they are part of the State of TN(but I think I'll stay in Chattanooga).

My mom and step-dad just moved back to Knoxville last month to get out of Memphis. It's her hometown but they just began to hate the city.

I cant blame them. My folks live up there but my wifes job and her family lives down here. I love it when I cross that Tn river going up to god country.

Slobber my folks are from Chatttown my grandmother was born and raised there and my grandfather was from Jawja just below Chatt, my grandfather was hurt in the air force and my father was born there also, my grandfather ended up paralyised and it was either move to NY or stay in this great state of ours and he could be treated at the VA in Memphis so i guess that's why i'm still here and that's where my roots come from.

Enough somewhat influencial people (black church pastors for example) want to see a black mayor in Memphis. It doesn't matter that this city is getting worse every year. It doesn't matter that Herenton is a race baiter. They just want to see a black man in office. No other black person has run before because they figured they couldn't win against Herenton. In almost every election shady stuff seems to happen. Can't remember how many dead people they found voting for Herenton back when he first won against Hackett in the 90's.

I remember hearing on the radio in Memphis a few months back, there was a judge who would issue counseling sessions(instead of fines or short jail time) to Memphis criminals offered by one of the local churches. A local invesitgator attended one of these counseling sessions. What did it consist of? Telling them why they should vote for Herenton.

Memphis is just one big corrupt city politically. From the Ford's to Herenton.

That's cool volz. I've only lived here for 2 years, was in Knox until I lost my job, actually prefer Chatt, not as crowded and a nice downtown area. I enjoy going to Memphis but I'm a country boy, Chatt's even too big for me sometimes.

Show some humanity and leave the politics out. Regardless if you started it or not, leave em' out. Say something like, (yeah thats terrible, I feel sorry for his mom, or wow, thats an unfortunate incident) or try this...dont say ANYTHING. enough .

That would mean my opinion on Memphis is every bit as worthwhile as you citing the last two mayors of New York as evidence of anything.

Why would I feel the need to say something that is obvious to even the least intelligent people? The original poster chose to politicize the issue. I'm merely pointing out the fallacious nature of expecting politicians to act as public saviors.
