"...I don't think that really says anything about where things are going with Austin. Think Tennessee is WAY UP IN THAT ONE and has some momentum. I'm not saying it's done, but as I've said for the last week or so, I do like their chances right now, just have to close it out. Coach Martin was in for a home visit last night and from what I gather everything went VERY WELL.

I think extending an offer to Peters says more about Zo being serious about taking five players in this class and also about his commitment to adding not just size, but versatile size."

Cuanzo looks like a master recruiter. Any of the players he has on the hook would be excellent additions. What is our final rank in B Ball recruiting, when all is said and done?

Not too sure on Peters and what he offers. Wouldn't it be better to at least save that scholly for the 2014 class or is he worth taking now? Personally, I think with some great success on the court this year and a very good 2013 recruiting class will only help in getting more top talent in 2014. I'm all in on using the 5th scholly on another pg or big, but Peters is a head scratcher to me.

I agree. I mean we could have a good season and go a round or two in the ncaa tourney , then that would def improve our chances with recruits for the next class.

My guess - Cuonzo has no qualms about clearing out any room he needs from year to year, thus, he has no qualms about signing to the limit or - in this case - oversigning.

I hope you and others are right about this being about taking more players. I hope this does NOT mean that Nichols is cooling off.

I'm guessing some where 8th -15th in recruiting rankings. What is scary is what Pastner is doing down in Memphis in recruiting.

No doubt, he is adding some studs to his next class. I think after it is all said and everyone is signed UT will be in the top 10.

Nichols is a Vol, book that. I also think J3 is a Vol but we will see how the cards fall... just my thoughts.

In the recruiting world, I don't book anything till there is ink on paper. Even the most mature ones are still 17 year old kids. Still, I hope you are right.

I can understand the occasional player that doesn't work out, but I would hope that we would eventually get a roster that we would replace players when they leave. Not if they are not good enough.

This. I think any coach that improves from year to year and continues to raise the bar has to have this mentality until he's established a roster to his abilities. Guys will come and go more frequently in the early years IMO.

I agree totally, but this being his 3rd recruiting class, I don't think he should take a player that may be over recruited or not contribute at this point when he can use it for a potential stud next year if things go as they look like they are. It looks like the ship is going in the right direction and the right players are coming aboard. I can see Landry possibly getting over recruited, not sure I want to see 2 in one class when it doesn't appear necessary.

I'm not going to doubt or question Cuonzo until he gives me a reason to.

Somewhere in that range seems about right, it'll deped who we get to go along with nichols(assuming we get him).

It'd be scarier if he could coach that taken though, or if he hadn't cancelled the series with us and we had to even think about them.

Memphis has a team of nothing but 4 and 5 star players now, and their only contributing 3 is Antonio Barton, who turned out to be way more than just a throw-in for his brother.

If Pastner can't get something done this year, with THAT team of mostly highly experienced talent, I'm pretty sure people are going to assume he can't get it done.

I agree. Martin, and any objective person, must believe that he filled his first two classes with bodies. Those guys WILL be recruited over, as they should be. CCM is too classy to run them off, but I have no doubt that he will continue to make any and all efforts to improve the talent. If he doesn't think the guys already here can cut it, they will be encouraged to explore their options with the assistance of the coaching staff and their connections. But, if they are busting their tail, in good academic standing, maintaining good character, and contributing as good teammates from the bench, they won't be run off.

I would like to think that CCM's goal is to recruit over everyone each year. That would only mean he is bringing in better talent every year.

Going forward it'll be as you describe IMO.

However, CCM is still dealing with the effects of his early classes, and early commitments he thought he'd be forced to take.

Now he's trying to fix that and flip the roster by simply adding more talented players than he currently has.

Call me crazy, but the more highlight vids I see of Peters the more I like him. I know these videos are meant to show all the positive and none of the negatives, but I see why Cuonzo would like him. Not overly athletic, but he seems to have a good feel for the game and looks for back door cuts, knows how to screen well, and moves great without the ball. Seems to have a very good understanding of the motion offense. At 6'7, he has a very sweet shooting stroke that does well coming off screens and his release doesn't have to be super qick because of his height. Solid mechanics on his form and a frame that looks like it can bulk out (unlike Reese). Honestly, he would be a solid 4-year role player, defense stretcher and potential workhorse (a la McBee). Most teams (not named Kentucky), build teams around 1-2 great players. He is a prime candidate of someone who will know his role when he gets in a program.
