I wonder who in the portal is the backup option if Kessler does turn pro. Do we even have a catcher on the roster right now? Pav is gone. Greer graduated and is done, right?

We have Charlie Taylor, who’s doing well in summer ball. Some said Evan Russell played some catcher in HS.

I'm not on this board much, but I'm gonna change that this offseason.

I say that to preface my question: How good are the chances the Vols land Kessler from Kentucky? I apologize if this has been discussed a bunch in this thread or another one already.

He’s also considering Arkansas and LSU, but the general feeling is that UT leads and our biggest concern may be him deciding to turn pro and sign as a FA.

Thanks for tha answer! Pretty cool we could beat out LSU or Arkansas for a guy. But could understand him going pro, too.

I'm not going to hold my breath. If Spikes made it to campus somehow, that would indeed be monumental for our team. I think he's just holding out as long as he can for more money, which the Rays will provide.

I'm interested to see what it costs the Red Sox to sign Fabian. I don't think it's within his best interest to return to school. I think he needs to go, but he has threatened to return. If the Sox can sign their first two picks (Mayer, Fabian) I will be over the moon. Two guys who at one point were both projected Top 10 picks. If you can fix Fabian's strikeout issue, then the Sox might have had one of the best drafts of the year.
