(Updated 8/2/23) 2023 MLB Draft and Roster Management Discussion Thread

I still think Rucker makes it to campus. $250,000 is not life changing money for him. If he gets $500,000 slot value, he will only get half of it. I think it would take more than that to get him not to come to school.

One of the hardest things about following the draft is that average fans have no idea what conversations have taken place between the kid, the school, the MLB, etc…

Or did Detroit take a kid they know they can't pay overslot to sign? They took two high school kids yesterday that probably go for more than slot money? Maybe wishful thinking on my part.
Probably wishful thinking. Never say never but there’s like 95% chance or even higher that he’s gone if he’s taken that high

Tigers have the second largest draft pool. I’m sure they knew what it would take to get him to sign. Will definitely be overslept

Galanie not picked yet should be seen as a good sign. Don’t think we’re out of the water on that one quite yet, but we’re approaching the point where’s it’s a no brainer to come to TN. Would help ease some sting from losing Rucker

Just take a little NIL money out of the church collection plate. Volnation won't tell your congregation. LOL

Pretty weird that Dickey hasn’t been selected yet tbh. Some people thought he might fall given the lack of a true position, but I’m not sure anyone saw him sliding down this far
Theoretically, could he come back or has he used up his eligibility?

He still has eligibility. Now that doesn’t mean you should expect him back but technically he could if he wants to
In fact I believe he actually could come back and still have leverage next season. It’s possible teams were nowhere near his asking price and he’s decided to come back. Now that’s pure speculation and I frankly do not fully understand the mlb draft but that’s what my friend who is an ex vol is starting to theorize. Again, pure speculation there. It’s just weird to see him still available in the 6th round. Don’t think anyone saw that coming

In my own personal opinion, I still think odds are greater than 50% he’s gone if you see him selected today. But, if it’s true he can come back and still retain leverage we’re getting to the point where it makes sense for him to get NIL deals and come back with what’s going to be a preseason top 3 team and try to make another impression on scouts
