(Updated 8/2/23) 2023 MLB Draft and Roster Management Discussion Thread

Lots of orgs are out of money until after the 10th round now. 1-10k is all they are offering at this pt

I wish someone had told Jud Fabian this when the Red Sox selected him 41st overall in 2021.

Lol there you go again arguing just to argue

The facts are history tells us 99/100 guys drafted in the top 10 sign

Rucker has already agreed to a deal and you know it

You’re the most miserable dude I’ve ever talked to on a message board and that is saying something. Please go troll someone else’s board

I’m not arguing just to argue. I said I felt Rucker is likely gone, but I’m not speaking in absolutes like you. He has not “definitely” already agreed to money. Again, he might leave and I expect him to leave, but there are countless examples of dudes getting drafted high and not accepting their slot.

the scouts are talking to these guys to know what it will take. We know clarke is signing for under slot so they have more money than slot.
again all this is happening BEFORE they are picked

Could someone bullet point for me who we're looking to avoid seeing by X round? I mean, I know it's not exact, but I just don't follow the draft process enough to know at what point it becomes much likelier that a kid gets to campus.
In case you haven't been following and the post I pointed you to was too little, you can read through the thread now from where you left off, and you will see posters identifying our players and recruits as well those of our SEC rivals as they happen. I think it will be clear.

I do think that we have a pretty solid chance of seeing Dickey return to school. Not a guarantee, but his bat is elite and if he can solidify a position next year he is a guy that can make a hell of a lot more money than what is left on the table.

That would be a nice surprise but it also means one of our young talented outfielders likely will not have a spot to play.

It sounds like HS guys taken in the 1st 5 rounds almost always go pro, but every round beyond that the odds go up that they make it to campus. $500K slot value in round 4 would be tough to pass up. You'd really have to gamble on yourself and get a pretty sweet NIL deal for it to make sense.
