I wouldn't expect a Gator to understand.

I understand the point you're attempting to make, but you can't dispute the economic impact that elite college football coaches like Nick Saban and Urban Meyer, or elite professional athletes like Dwight Howard have on our society. They are an economy unto themselves.

Suggesting that they are no more important than teachers is completely false. They earn market value based on what they bring in...it's called capitalism. Bama draws 92K for a spring game because of Nick Saban. He's worth every penny Bama pays him.

Urban Meyer is worth whatever Ohio State pays him based on his track record, because they expect to get a return on that investment and Meyer's track record suggests Ohio State will get that return.

Whatever Apple was paying Steve Jobs, it wasn't enough. He revolutionized how people communicate and completely changed how we buy music. What a teacher makes in comparison is irrelevant...they're handing out iPads in some middle schools down here.

If the NBA isn't your thing, that's fine...just know that there are millions of fans across the world who consume the product, buy jerseys and merchandise, etc...and love that the lockout is over. I'm one of those fans. Again, no one is asking you to like the NBA, but you're being simple-minded by ignoring the positive economic and social impact sports teams bring to their respective communities.

Please understand that I'm not of the opinion that teachers are NOT important to society...I was raised by parents who taught for over a combined 65 years. If you have a gripe with teachers' salaries, and want to draw a conclusions about society based on what elite coaches and professional athletes make by comparison, be my guest. It's a weak argument where one factor has no bearing on the other.

It's really very simple. People who perform at an elite level, at the top of their profession over a sustained period of time, earn more than those who don't.

But you're a Dawg...I wouldn't expect you to understand.
