Most players would love to know they’re going to play 34-35 minutes a game. They don’t play the game to sit out 15 minutes a game. These are young athletes. The notion they should play less does not appeal to most of them. I say play your best players 32-34 minutes a game.
And yet when we play guys 30+ minutes our fans are saying Barnes is wearing them down, which is it?

I think it’s crazy that college athletes can’t play 35 minutes a game with very little drop off.

I mean there’s years and years of evidence to support this theory, not sure why it surprises you? Especially in a system which preaches defense, really hard to play at that level for 35 minutes.

I think they can play 35 minutes with minimal drop off. I think most really good teams prefer to play 7 guys, maybe 8.

UROS is my hero. He's aways there when the guys come off the floor to give them a high five or help them up at the base of the goal when someone falls. This kid is ALL VOL. Maybe 2 years under Barnes can make him into something. There's not another coach in the USA could do any better.

He is a good passer out of the high post, better than any of our other backup bigs and better maybe even than Fulk (at that skill specifically.) And thats an important skill for our offense. But he's not going to play much with his lack of foot speed on defense and pour rebounding/boxing out

On a positive note, he seems to be an outstanding teammate. He genuinely seems to celebrate other players successes by standing and cheering.

Uros is a great 12th player on a team. He is a tremendous culture and energy guy. Watch him on the bench during games. Great example of how to act even if you do not play. Now, as far as why he doesn't play....he is tall and that is basically the extent of his basketball qualities as the SEC level. It is what it is. Not his fault. No reason to beat him up about it. Same thing that would be said about me if I was on the bench for UT. I just don't have it. Uros is limited athletically. And if that is the case you need to make up for that lack of speed and explosiveness with exceptional instincts and he does not have those either.

Maybe Plavsic makes the jump to a contributor next season by working hard during the off season.

Tennessee loses Fulkerson and Pons after this season so Pember and Plavsic have a chance for meaningful minutes next season.

The Arkansas center gives me hope Uros could become serviceable as Uros appears quicker / more athletic than him. The Arkansas guy does have the outside shot you pointed out although I recall there being talk of Uros having a competent outside shot in practice (we heard the same about Fulky so I take it with a grain of salt). In CRB’s offense I’m not sure if a 15’+ jump shot is needed for the 5. Where Uros will probably always struggle at UT is the constant defensive switching as he doesn’t appear to have the foot speed if he got switched onto a wing. I’ve noticed improvement this season over last in his limited minutes with his positioning and defensive recognition. If he could learn to get in the lane and keep his arms straight up then fight like heck to box out and rebound then I could see him getting 15-20 minutes a game in the next 2 years depending on who else we recruit in the post. I hope it works out for both him and Gaines as they both have inspirational stories.
I think Uros biggest problem is just his comfort level when he gets the ball in his hand. He needs to get some confidence and develop a feel for the game. Most of this comes from competing at this level and is hard to replicate in practice. As you said he has more athleticism then the Arkansas kid.

Glorified cheerleader, after this season he will have had 2 years with Barnes, what are his minutes?

His problem is weak rebounding and he’s not a defensive presence for being 7’. We don’t need 15 points a game from him.

Unfortunately, today's game doesn't bode well for the 7 footer with no outside shot, and with relatively low mobility. By the time a heavy big man can react (or even get down the court), a play is usually over.

It is nice in theory to have those 7 footers, but most of them seem to spend the majority of their time on the bench.

I miss the old days where a true big man could dominate a game. Ralph Sampson, Patrick Ewing, Hakeem, UNC’s big men, Shaq

exactly. Uros has zero pressure to score. Rebound and play defense and he sucks at that. I mean sucks.
