It's an American invention, as baseball is, and it's a way of unifying us before a we vs they sporting event. The fact that these sports are played elsewhere is irrelevant. They play God Save the Queen before an NFL game in London
They don’t before soccer games in England.

When will people (this is a criticism of both leftists and right wingers) get over this fixation with flags, anthems and sloganeering? If one side feels compelled to say "shut up and dribble" and the other side feels compelled to take a knee, seems to me that the pregame (emphasis on "game") ceremonies might take on far more importance than is necessary. Again... it is just a game. And... it is just a piece of cloth and a song. No need for humanity on both sides of this to get worked up over either.

And BTW, this includes my frustration on both sides about the Confederate flag nonsense.

I just don't understand why people allow themselves to get worked up over trivial issues like this when there are far more important issues out here. But I guess bread and circuses...

Alot of people died over the centuries defending that piece of "cloth".

The @NFL played two different “National Anthems” tonight. Someone just sent me a photo of
@KariLake sitting during the first one.

They apparently died for the cloth, but not The Constitution... which is what they took an oath to defend...
That's ******** and you know it. Lots of them died for their buddy next to them. Black, white, Asian... it doesn't matter. To make it what you are making it is reprehensible.
