USC sanctions

All of the above, which makes him a perfect match for his new football coach. Now is not the time to be arrogantly boasting about how powerful USC is. That is what got them into this mess in the first place and I am sure it offended folks at the NCAA.

Who knows, with Garrett, Kiffin and Orgeron on board, maybe USC will continue its ways and get the death penalty in a few years.

Looks to me like SC may be making an NFL bid. This would explain too powerful for the college game mentality. By becoming an NFL expansion team the Trogans can continue to pay its players and be done with the 2A. And x continues to roll into fulfilling his dreams.

And what would that achieve? Mediocrity has been pretty much the hallmark of UCLA football, a few breakthroughs now and then, but mediocrity is the word.

they've won over 60% of their games and have 17 conference titles. i'm not sure that's mediocre. they are certainly a top-20 program historically. a lot of that is in the past certainly, but the right coach could surely do it again.

yup. the lost to miami in a hurricane delayed game. i hope they continue to stink since i hate ucla with a passion far greater than any other school, but it would ignore reality to say they shouldnt' be the primary beneficiary.

But wouldnt USC appeal be worse for the program? To drag this out for a year, maybe more, would only put more doubt in the minds of potential recruits for an extended period of time. Right?

The sanctions against Memphis came down about this time last Summer. UM appealed. The appeal was denied the first week of March this year.

or they could appeal and put a 1 year self imposed bowl ban that way it doesn't push it out

Did anybody hear Mike Garrett's statement about the ruling? Delusional much?

Here is a snippet from an ESPN article.

USC athletic director Mike Garrett, speaking at a previously scheduled USC Coaches' Tour at the Airport Marriott in Burlingame, Calif., had this to say to boosters: "As I read the decision by the NCAA, all I could get out of all of this was ... I read between the lines, and there was nothing but a lot of envy, and they wish they all were Trojans."[/I]

Sounds like Lane. What a bunch of Delusional , Arrogant group of elitist. Funny how they think they are above the law and everyone else. USC is hardly the MECCA of college football and i, for one, will enjoy their slow descent BACK to mediocrity.

If that makes you a top 20 program historically, the SEC has about 9 teams in that mix. They just don't have the conference titles because they play actual competition.

i wonder if LSUfreek is drafting up something for this occasion.

Day 2 of the sanctions and i still haven't lost the pep in my step. LK and USC got what they rightfully deserved and it is great. Ambles have fun on probation buddy.

No hard feelings there @ all.

I'm glad they took the time to disarm that pathetic "But what about the kids???" argument that those little USC brats have been parroting with regard to the players who weren't there at the time.

Also, it's good that they called out the hacks over at the WWL. I was listening to the late night guy and almost threw my radio out of the window when he started calling the punishment too harsh.

They didn't do anything of note while SC was wandering in the desert in the '90s. Why would now be any different?

Not entirely accurate. During SC's last major probation period, 82-88, UCLA won the PAC-10 4 times, won 3 Rose Bowls, went 63-11-1, and finished in the top 10 4 times. During the 90's, programs like Nebraska, Florida State, Tennessee, the Arizona schools, and others all shared in the California talent from the decline of USC; that said, UCLA still won the PAC-10 3 times during that decade, and beat USC eight straight times in the 90's.
