USC sanctions

From the cover letter the 'AA sent to Tim Floyd: "The committee did not name you in any findings of violations or impose a penalty upon you."

Same thing they said to Calipari not once, but twice before, at two different programs. Doesn't make them innocent.

I heard that Lane has taken up selling monorails to unsuspecting desert towns.

I've heard that he's already sold monorails to Brockway, Ogdenville, and North Haverbrook, and by gum it put them on the map

The NCAA infractions committee was waiting for him on his way to his dream job.

It says in the 'AA report that USC was classified "repeat offender" status which obviously had a major impact on the severity of the penalties imposed. Does anyone know what caused the initial probation?

i'd argue they show some pretty good evidence.

if you read the report it's pretty clear the ncaa bombed them more because they insisted that there wasn't ample evidence that bush got paid which is of course ridiculous. i bet if they admitted to it right away that the sanctions would be far less severe.

Agreed. USC threw self imposed sanctions at the wrong team anyway, they should have been jumping under the bus. This one will sting I don't care what kiffin says on TV. If TX drops in their back door to boot he will be the new coach with chest pains. This is pretty fitting. Plus PC walks. I hate to hear reporters harpooning Bush though, the boy got paid so cry me a river, he's laughing at the bank.

ESPN is reporting that all signs point to their appeal not having much of a chance of working.

Ya think? Read the report. It's clear they are hosed. They basically already said it's reduced because we almost knocked you out with a tv ban. Kiffin must be spinning. That poor poor dumb a$$hole. He just can't help he's a self righteous sob. Hat you know what I'm talking about. USC not looking so good now. Guess the defense rests.

Man, he's gettin fat...

Nervous eater. I love what the one reporter said about his Dad having to coach 2 years just to see a bowl and thinking why did I follow this kid. I bet Kiffins got 6 years contract left that he'll be wanting to trade now. Dream job with a picture of Kiffin will be my copyright you read it here first.

I think USC admin HAS to appeal to save face with their students, coaches, and alumni...they cant take the worst spanking in the past decade and say thank you - PUBLICLY.

As far as the NCAA reducing sanctions, I believe they would be unlikely to do so. Reading the snippets from the report that I have, it seems the NCAA feels they are being a little generous to USC in the penalties they handed down. The NCAA basically says - look we seriously considered a TV ban and other sanctions as well, but we will let it go at this, and I think that's basically what the appeal committee will tell them.

Some USC fans are clearly becoming unhinged.

I was lurking on a board earlier and some were saying to skip the appeal and go for a lawsuit.

:eek:k:

USC - University of SPOILED Children

These trust fund babies have lost all touch with reality. I saw one interview earlier where one student said - I don't see why something as small and trivial as this has to affect the who university. Apparently, your athletic dept. being found to have no control over its athletes, turning a blind eye to cheating, etc is trivial. Never mind the rules they violate, how about the ethical responsibility they have to help mold these kids into quality young men and women.

No lawsuit is possible under the NCAA Bylaws...it's an administrative action. Any actual lawsuit would be thrown out although they could drag it out for a little while. USC could probably leave the NCAA.

Your post confuses me... I guess I should state I am a Tennessee fan. Pardon me for thinking the name Reverend Rocky Top should express that.

By the way...I failed to mention earlier - did anyone else notice that that awesome recruiter and coach Todd McNair is also banned from any recruiting activities as well for one year - calls to recruits, no visits, no letters, no nothing...among other sanctions against him directly. Apparently the NCAA feels there was enough evidence to show that McNair had some knowledge of what was going on.

Pete Caroll apparently was cited for helping football players get intern jobs with a sports agent - these positions were not open to other students on campus. He also hired a former NFL coach as a consultant which put USC over the limit for number of coaches allowed and allowed open access to facilities to non-football persons.

When you read through the report, well again, the bits that I have read, the idea that this is all about reggie bush, like USC fans are raging on about, is not the whole story. The Bush incident, while most egregious, is but the best example of how USC coaches and admin lacked control and chose to turn a blind eye to improprieties, and in many cases either directly help facilitate the wrongs, or at the very least fostered an environment where these actions were tolerated. Hence the wording in the "institutional control" clause - either know or SHOULD HAVE KNOWN.....in the end between coaches, assistant coaches, compliance officers, and other admin staff....USC Should Have Known!

Just out of curiosity, I wonder what Seantrel Henderson makes of this? I'm pretty sure Kiffhole and Ogre spoon fed him whatever he wanted to hear to get that signature.

I don't care what anyone says. I feel a guilty pleasure every time I see the headlines. I mean, Monte is only going to coach 3 more years tops. Not that he doesn't want to, his health isn't going to allow it. O is loyal and will stick with Kiffin. (until a legit DI offer comes calling then he's gone) And if anyone here thinks Kiffin can carry his own weight, you're forgetting who you're talking about. If he surrounds himself with people that are smarter than he is (like MANY a successful coach) then he may continue to be sucessful. Time will exposeKiffin's weaknesses and he is on the brightest stage of them all. You cannot hide in LA. They're already out to get him.

So yes, I am enjoying the news and it is giving me joy. Thanks, NCAA!

So, the more I think about it, the more I think an appeal and the following lawsuit might benefit USC. It can probably be easily proven that the NCAA has minimal fact, which I kind of think is true, and just (as Carrol puts it) had an agenda to prove a point. I can see it going either way though. If they go the lawsuit route, it would be epic to say the least. Two multi-million dollar organizations spending as much money as they can to win the case.

Like I said, I could see it going either way. I know two things: USC will appeal the ruling and that the NCAA wont lighten the penalty. If USC files a lawsuit, it would pretty much be a toss up then. Our "sweet justice" could be short lived.
