USU Aggies Spring Ball Video

I think we said the same thing. Last statement was:

"But I’m confident Jones and Co. Won’t be letting our boys presume to come on field thinking they can just collectively yell “BOO!” and expect USU will suddenly become myotonic goats."

Gruuden, ain't nuthin wrong wid us. Some of us understand that you should never underestimate an opponent. Case in point. The war ready Nipponese Empire and the Nazi Regime viewed the USA as just a nation of fat azzed Yankees interested only in monetary profits. And had militarily only gone up against pansies like the outgunned Red men, an non-modernized Mexico, and civil warred themselves. When faced with a REAL war, the USA would fold like a house of cards. What happened is they go stomped because they underestimated the ole Red, White, and Blue. One German adviser even tried to tell Hitler, he had overlooked a huge American industrial asset. Can't recall his name right now but he was referring to that collective body of boobs and curves we refer to as Rosie the Riveter. And a Japanese colonel whose name also escapes me tried mightily to tell the war planners they were discounting America's ship building and auto industry's capacity to shift to a war footing. Their own emperor echoed this. But overconfident war planners discarded the advice and underestimated the enemy only to be just utterly stomped. So the "you ppl" you refer to are saying the same thing. Don't underestimate the enemy. Ain't nuthin wrong wid us. Wes jes sayin' don tack tings fur granted. Come battle prepared to do what Joshua should have done as ordered when he led Israel into the promised land. Destroy the enemy totally, including their livestock, wheat fields, and everything in between. Can't wait to see a bunch of orangemen run the "T" screaming bloody murder along with 102,000+ Vols fans belting out RockyTop and Down The Field. Or just stomping the "hail" out of the stadium terraces.

This was a real treat to read. You are very well read sir. I like tying history to modern day like this. Bravo.

That part of your mixed metaphor is a bit misplaced. The only reason Joshua was leading the army is because he was one of two spies that looked at the enemy and said: "Not a problem. Let's go kick their hethen tails." In other words, the people who failed were the ones that gave the enemy too much credit.

That aside, you seem to (once again) ignore the fact that this is fan discussion-- not coach/team preparation. Maybe you're going all Dooley and comparing our coach to Hitler and our team to Nazis. Not sure why you would want to do that. But the fans on this site are neither planning WWII, nor are we preparing the team for game 1. We are comparing talent and making predictions.

First, don't get so miffed. Second, you are apparently talking about Joshua when Moses was still alive. My comments refer to post-Moses Israel. Joshua had explicit orders from God Himself to kill every living thing in the land. Instead, he let himself get duped by a group of men who rode into camp with a lie and convince him to belay his orders. He was chosen as you said in so many words, because he was faithful in his belief victory would be granted them. Moses (and God) pick him for that reason. I will stop here as I had no intention in engaging in another religious tit for tat thingie. It's a waste if time in my experience. I learned to not even try to debate people about:

--their dog
--kids
--politics
--religion
--money
--cars
--food
--almost any ethnic issue

Now, regarding your Dooley-izing me, I honestly expected a higher thought process from you, Crush. I can't even pretend to understand how you got the impression I was comparing Jones to Hitler or the other mess you mention above. So I'll just let it go because it's a dead end anyway. I just never expected such misreading or wanton accusations from you of all posters on this board. The issue was about why we (fans) shouldn't underestimate our opponents. I think it was obvious I wasn't going after Jones given my unashamedly support of the guy exhibited in myriad posts. But it's cool. One is free to believe whatever they want. God Bless America!

The only thing that concerns me regarding USU is that CMW has been there for 4 years, but there has been continuity on the offensive side of the ball. On the defensive side, the staff is either first or second year.

We have better athletes, so I think we win this thing handily.

It was a bit tongue in cheek, bro. I'm sorry I didn't make that more clear. :p It was a failed attempt to say, "We're not the coaches or the players. It's OK for us to get on here and predict big wins."

:hi:

I don't stay mad for long. It's a waste of both time and energy. You'd have to do something irreconcilably horrible for me to actually hate a person or stay mad more than 10 minutes or a day.

However, you should know by now, I'm given to integrating historical, literary, and science, and even sci fi into my posts as parallels to concepts I'm talking about. It's my nature.

It is. It's why you're held in such esteem around here. :)

Interesting evaluation. The only thing that i see is the concern is Yes we have Great talent but its RAW talent. We hardly have any experiance returning at the O-line and D-Line. Those will decide the game IMO.

same for USU. least amount of returning starters in all of FBS Football. 4/5 Offensive Lineman

Doesn't matter anywhere near as much as most believe. But, everyone needs something to talk about.

Interesting comment- what do you think are bigger factors as far as returning starters go? Is there a more important position group than another to have experience?

IMO, d-backs are at or near the top of the list.

Except its not like they are a recruiting powerhouse. Productive starters does matter. Returning starters may not mean much when you are in a big conference recruiting better talent. It might not be a big deal if you have 10 or more returning in most cases. But if you're USU and have about 14-15 and then your starting RB and QB who i didnt even count are coming off ACL/MCL repair then id say its a big factor. A new O Line becomes that much more of a concern.

Yes, if all things are equal experience is a factor. If all things are not equal (in this case the talent differentials are massive) then experience isn't as much of a factor. By the time we get into SEC play, where our talent is mitigated, one can hope that our young players are competent experience wise.

Well, they have one returning starter in the secondary. Even most of the guys on the 2 deep are gone.

Secondary is a big issue and question mark for USU. Two of our starters were drafted into the league. Tough to replace two NFL guys even if you get the top talent in the country, which we don't. My hope is solid front seven play will mitigate the lack of experience in the secondary. The best cover-up for an inexperienced secondary is solid D-line and LB play.

Not flaming here, but Mel Kiper has an early big board and Kyler Fackrell that guy USU fans have been telling you about is listed as #18 prospect in the 2015 draft.

Jameis Winston tops Mel Kiper's too-early 2015 Big Board - NFL draft - ESPN

18. *Kyler Fackrell, OLB, Utah State Aggies

"Many people haven't seen him play, but Fackrell is a big-time athlete at 6-5 and about 250 pounds, and he's already started 27 games as he enters his junior season. He had 13.0 tackles for loss last season and could have had more on what was a very good Aggies defense."

Pretty sure the Aggie troll has been saying he's the #2 LB

I don't read Kiper because I don't want to pay for his opinion. I don't know how reputable it is but AJ is listed as No. ilb prospect for 2015 with walterfootball.com.

When all is said and done, the largest differential in the game will be the matchup of the USU CBs and such vs. our WR core. I can honestly say that both sides have decent arguments as to why every other matchup in this game could go either way. I simply don't believe that USU will have a good answer for our WRs, with the level of skill, speed, shiftiness, and sheer talent/physicality the group has schowcased. They will be our difference makers.

A ton of very good nfl players and high draft picks have come from teams not in one of the "power conferences". Sounds like Fackrell is gonna be one of those.

If this projection holds true, he'd be the first guy taken in the first round for USU since Merlin Olsen in the 60s. The kid is talented and has the physical gifts to make it in the NFL

Wish him well, just hope his season gets off to a really slow start 😊
