Snideness aside and despite hoping we win 72-14, the USU game could easily become like the USA game. The elements for that to happen are more in place than it was for the USA team. Mainly because we don't have that 'vaunted' OL anymore. This time and despite naysayers, we actually have a QB - Receiver battery and not just one but likely five if not six. Plus a stable of RBs that range from scatbacks to a nimble bulldozer and a thoroughbred. What's missing currently is a proven OL. All that artillery won't amount to much without breastworks to protect the battery crews from sniper attacks.
The DL must also prove itself. At this time it seems the front 4 guys play great when they're, for wont of a better term, in the mood. If you recall, this attitude allowed USA back into the game and gave one of their players the gumption to get in Tiny's face and say things that set him off. Which could have cost us a game changing penalty when we could least afford it. Now, you can pooh pooh Poly players all you want but if our DL plays that way, they will get their azzes kicked.
So the elements for another USA game in which we just might end up on the losing end is there. However, I for one know darn well CBJ and company will have this team so hyped they'll come out pizzed off at everything. Fans who doubt and question them. USU Aggies who consider the Vols ripe for a MWC colonoscopy with a piece of barb wire attached to a porcupine wearing a camera. Sports writers who spout disrespect at them. Then there's the first game freight train rumble, severe weather thunder, and earthquake shake at Neyland Stadium stirring the Xenomorph blood transfusion Butch has put their bodies through.
The team comes out determined to make a statement that the dam that's held back the orange flood will receive it's first dynamiting "today."
So I'm glad the team won't have the overconfident and dangerous disregard for USU that you and other fans exhibit here. Cause it would get us keelhauled by a team that would use our own river and a boat from our own navy to do the job.
What are these? Sound interesting. Would like to hear more...
