UT Lady Vols vs Bayor Lady Bears Game Thread

Heck of a season for the best bunch of kids in the world. Is this the first year that the men's team will advance further than the women's? Or, have already?

I don't really follow the Lady Vols that much - or women's basketball period - but how is that man allowed to play for Baylor. Not only is he a man - but I remember the story and seeing video of him punch a girl on the other team in the face during a game. Even Blount from Oregon got a more significant suspension - and it wasn't as bad and his suspension was a lot longer.

OMG !!!...:eek:lol:..I have been sitting here thinking the very same thing...

I think with Blount, that was a huge over reaction by their coach in that suspension.

At least with Blount the opposing player sort of deserved it. Byron Hout was being a moron and taunting Blount and basically got what he deserved. Can't say the same for the girl Griner punched.

You can't beat many teams when you're shooting 32.9% from the field and under 50% from the stripe.

Yeah, I agree with the almost deserving it somewhat. And, that was after the game was over which puts that punch in a different area. Still, Blount's suspension was over the top. Their coach was going to sit him the rest of the season until strong feedback made him reconsider.

I guess it's true that you have to take the bad with the good... terrific win for the men, shocking loss for the women.

No. This is still Geno's tournament to lose by a wide margin. I'm not even sure Baylor will get past Duke in the next round.

That's my thoughts. Baylor's good and they really shined in the game today. But, I think they go out in the next round. Ya never know. They may stay hot. May not.

And, to answer my own question, it is the first time the men advance further than the men. Had to check to make sure.

this was a pathetic performance by Summitt and the Vols.

First, this game showed what a terribly perimeter game UT has--slow players and missed shots. Pat's put together a big, slow team with a 1970s-style that centers around Cain and scoring in the point. When we couldn't do that, with Griner blocking shots, we had nothing to fall back on.

Griner's tough, but Cain and Brewer were hapless. Cain is a very big girl--only two inches shorter than Griner and wider; she ought to have been able to use her body and skills to score a little and defend. Both are centers were terrible--and they let Griner establish low-post position all day without much effort to move her out of the box. You can't do that! You've got to push a low-post player out of her comfort zone. We didn't do that--terrible coaching.

Also, I haven't yet looked at the box score, but I'm quite sure our starters played too much. Where is the depth? You could tell Bjorklund was gassed, which no doubt was partly responsible for her poor shooting. Pat's recruited so poorly at the guard position the last couple of years that we have no depth. UConn will beat Baylor, if they play, by at least 25 because they are athletic and run a dynamic offense with good perimeter players--not Summitt's 1970s-style stuff.

It's sad to see the hatred that surfaces when the Lady Vols lose a game. At the beginning of the posts it was all sweetness, but when the LVs started losing the Baylor coach deserved to be punched, her jacket belonged on James Brown, and an opposing player suddenly changed genders.

Show a little class...I am not a Lady Vols fan, but I have always thought the organization was a class act. Not so true for the fans...give credit where it is due instead of denegrating teenagers.

What happened to that Southern Hospitality??

LVs took about 25 more shots than Baylor. Just couldn't put the ball in the basket today. It happens...too bad it happened in the NCAA's.

Thanks for the fun season, LVs. Get 'em next year.

Yep, James Brown....that was me. Had nothing to do with the game or whether we were winning or losing. I like Mulkey; don't like her jacket. So, in your eyes I'm a bad..bad...poster. Thanks. Have fun on the board.

I'm a glutton for punishment, I guess. For a fair assessment of LV actual fans, why not peruse some of the other LV game threads before deciding true LV fans are classless.

Classless ... It's an interesting word.

As an actual graduate of Tennessee (who also happens to have two athletic daughters), I, too, am disgusted by many of the idiotic posts here. I always wonder when I read particularly offensive ones if the writers ever attended an actual class at UT. In most cases, I suspect not. Classless.

In her post game comments, Pat explained that their defense and rebounding, which had been the foundation of this team all season, abandoned them. I suspect a lot of that had to do Baylor. There's nothing weak or Anti-Vol about congratulating Baylor. They managed to beat one of the three toughest teams in women's basketball this year. And, it had nothing to do with cheating, sex changes, or any of the other "clever" musings on this board. Baylor played an amazing game. Period.

The future for this Lady Vols team is very bright. They are going to be in the hunt for the NC next year and the year after. Lord Voldemort's team from the north is in the driver's seat this year, but will be on the outside looking in next year when Tina Charles graduates.

So, I'm shocked and disappointed by the loss because I felt like TN had the best chance to send Voldemort home empty-handed. Now, that mantle is passed to Stanford (Go Cardinal!).

But, I'm 100% certain that Pat would be horrified by the ultra-low level of discourse displayed by a few of the posters here. Thank God they are in the minority. Just because you have the ability to make crude, moronic insults about extremely talented, accomplished young women doesn't make you a Lady Vols fan ... It makes you a jackass. And, when you post new comments in a feeble attempt to thump your chests and defend your indefensibly childish behavior, you're laughable and sad.

I read an interview with Coach K in which he excoriated a reporter who denigrated his recent teams. Coach said two of the most interesting words when you compete are since and never. He said he's glad Duke is in the since because many, many teams find themselves in the other category.

As long as we have Pat, the Lady Vols will ALWAYS be in the since.

Regarding maturity and sportsmanship ... Which category will you be in?
