Would somebody (if anyone cares) please explain how the baseball coach at UT Martin has kept his job with a record like this:

1999 Overall:16-38 OVC:4-19
2000 Overall:12-41 OVC:2-21
2001 Overall:8-46 OVC:3-18
2002 Overall:18-33 OVC:4-15

2007 Overall:19-36 OVC:7-19
2008 Overall: 10-41 OVC: 5-25
2009 Overall: 21-30 OVC: 10-14
2010 Overall: 24-31 OVC: 8-16
2011 Overall: 20-36 OVC: 10-13
2012 Overall: 13-41 OVC: 7-20

It's not like they are competing in the SEC. It's the OVC. They play teams like Belmont, Austin Peay, Murray State, Morehead St, and Tenn Tech. With the exception of Belmont, all of those schools are in rural areas of Tennessee and Kentucky and I doubt any of them spend a lot of money on baseball.

A winning percentage of less than 30% for 15 years and they don't make a change? They would be better served to just drop baseball and spend the money on something else.

Head coach and the AD are big buds. Bubba (yes his name is Bubba) will have a job as long as he wants one I'm afraid. It's really a shame, they've had some really talented ballplayers in recent years.

And for whomever said it was underfunded...not really, they have a nice stadium and a newly built locker room complex. They aren't on full scholarships, but neither is their softball team. Hasn't kept the softball team from being one of the better small D-1 programs in the Southeast. The baseball teams' failure is all on the head coach and the AD for keeping him on.

I have been told they barely have half of the11.7 scholarships the NCAA allows in their funding. If that's true that is a huge disadvantage and makes them severely underfunded regardless of facilities that are extremely poor as well even with the upgrades.

Part of the reason they may be short on schollie money(if they are which is debatable) is that Bubba for some reason unknown to anyone, recruits more out-of-state than in-state. Harder to come up with a $12,000 partial scholarship out-of-state than a $6,000 one for in-state. He also doesn't take advantage of Martin's policy of allowing instate tuition for out-of-state students that achieve higher ACT scores. The other athletic programs recruit the smarter out-of-state kids to take advantage of that policy...baseball doesn't.

Like I said it's 99% on the coach...

It hard to find someone, especially a coach, that wants to live in Martin, TN.

That's pretty bold talk for someone living in Prattville, Alabama!!

It's a beautiful campus and in 1970, Esquire Magazine named Martin one of the nine happiest towns in America!

It's stuck in 1970, I'll give them that. I lived in Martin and went to school there my freshman year and other than watching the girls sunbathe on top of Clement Hall, Martin is lacking for anything to do and isnt close to any city other than Paris. BTW...I'm at my Orange Beach condo nearly every weekend. Having lived in both places; I'll take Prattville and our new Bass Pro Shop albeit in Alabama over Martin and Piggly Wiggly any day.

I've been in both places and Prattville doesn't hold a candle to the metropolis of Martin, Tennessee. Try your best to denigrate this great town but to choose the backwards, ugly town of Prattville over Martin destroys any credibility you may have.

Sorry you flunked out of the Harvard of the South (aka UTM). And if you were watching the girls sunbathe on top of Clement Hall (aka Overton Park Zoo), it's no wonder your judgement is this weak.

I can see right now the homer in you is causing you to make ridiculous statements. Prattville has a new Bass Pro Shop, new open air mall, all kinds of eaterys...Tell me what Martin has? A couple of dives and Piggly Wiggley...I'll hang up and listen :clapping:

UT Martin has an institution of higher learning.....at which you were apparently unable to make a passing grade!

Martin also has a nationally ranked rodeo program, trees, running water, and paved roads throughout the county. None of which I have ever seen in Prattville.

Even you said, the best part of Prattville was your ability to go to a condo in Orange Beach every weekend. In other words, the best part of Prattville is that it is 3 hours from a beach.

......and don't forget the annual Soybean Festival which is celebrated every Labor Day weekend. This year they even have the great Sawyer Brown appearing on the main stage downtown! Top that!
