UT or OSU for the 8-seed? (Data)

I thought the committee made a big point about viewing the most recent performances more heavily.

We win that metric hands down.
ohio state's most recent performance sucked eggs.
That’s only when we lose. We lose to UGA and are 9-2 and we are out of it but when Bama gets dominated by OU and they are 9-3, somehow they are still in it

the fact Bama is in sickens me, I know they’re a media darling but come on man. Appears that regardless of any movement putting them at 11 secures them in my opinion.

Yeah okay but I think it’s perfectly fine to say losing to an unranked Michigan at home 13-10 is a lot uglier than losing to unranked Arkansas on the road, 19-14.
Agreed. I bet the committee says that’s evened out by them losing by 1 at undefeated, number 1 Oregon while we lost by 2 TDs at 2-loss UGA. Then the edge goes to Ohio State by having 2 teams that have 1 loss each, both to Ohio State. That’s how I’m guessing they’re looking at it.

The metrics still point to OSU over us, but that is only valued with the Indiana win as a quality win. What a farce.

My biggest issue with this is the weather in Columbus. It could suck really bad with sleet or snow. Those guys are used to awful weather and we're not.
Right now the weather between Knoxville and Columbus is about the same. It’s been fairly warm everywhere until this last week or so. The same time they turned cold we did too so I don’t think it’ll be a huge difference this year. Other years it certainly would be and there’s still enough time for that to change so we shall see.

We both have a bad loss to an unranked team. OSU lost at home by 3 to a 7-5 Michigan team and we lost by 5 on the road to a 6-6 Arkansas team. No doubt losing at home is worse but losing to your biggest rival probably isn’t viewed as badly as losing to a random conference opponent.

We both have a “good” loss on the road to a top tier team. But OSU lost by 3 and we lost by 14. I remember watching our game against Georgia knowing that we not only had to stop that last score if we wanted to have a chance to win but we also needed to stop it even if we didn’t score to make it a one score loss.

I wasn’t surprised that OSU didn’t drop below us…the only pathway I saw for us to host was for Notre Dame to lose to USC or Georgia lose to GT and Texas.

I‘m very happy my Vols are in the playoffs. We don’t shy away from playing anyone anywhere. We’ll take the fight to OSU for 60 minutes!
