Well down to #2 and that’s being generous. Why can’t Barnes get this team ready?I'd honestly have UNC ahead of us right now. They have one less loss. They beat us head to head, albeit on their home court, and they have kept all their losses under 7 points except for an 11 point loss to UConn on a nuetral court.
I think if we win the SEC tournament, we will get the #1. If they win the ACC tournament and we don't win the SEC, I think they are in. I think we neee to make it to the final at the minimum, and if we happen to play UK in the final, I think that game would matter to the committee.
And get beat by Miss State. PatheticFreaking AP has us at number 5 after we played that gauntlet of ranked teams and only lost to one. AP Poll Top 25 revealed following conclusion of college basketball regular season
Same here. One thing is for sure, this team should not be called "tough and physical" the rest of the the year. Maybe previous CRB teams, but this team is at best "aggressive with finesse". Anytime they play a team like Miss St and they get bumped, judy chopped or fall hard to the ground they seem to fade instead of getting mad and tougher. I wish they had owned that identity all year and game planned it that way. Aidoo just can't get position with his back to the basket against those types of bigs so if that jump hook isn't going he hasn't been affective. jmoI know we've all lived on the belief that this team was F4 material all year because of the highs we have seen and the existence of a great scorer, but honestly, I don't know if I ever really believed it. It's been a novel concept, but we are who we are. A team that lacks offensive punch in big moments.
In the back of my mind, I think I've always known that us winning 4 straight games to make a F4 with this team was just not very realistic, unfortunately. If we had the 2023 version of Santi that we've all hoped would eventually find his way, and the 2022 version of Gainey who shot 50% from 3, then maybe it's different. But the C-minus version of those two guys combined with the inconsistent versions of Aidoo against big, physical post players has really just neutered some of Knecht’s best performances. He just can't do it all by himself.
Are we really that much better as a team than the 2023 version of ourselves? I know the record is slightly better and we won the SEC, but is the floor in a tournament environment really much higher for this version than that version? I'll agree the ceiling is higher, but we just fail to play up to that ceiling far too often to think we won't see a similar performance like our last two games before reaching the 3rd weekend of the NCAAT.
I think I've been quite reserved today. Actually, I'm not upset about the loss. I expected it and never felt that we'd get a 1 seed so going out early would have been a blessing in disguise had we truly rested our starters. Since we didn't do that as much as I'd hoped, today does hurt a bit from that perspective. On the bright side, if there's leadership and pride on this team, these last 2 losses will have them chomping at the bit to take it out on our next couple of opponents. Might be the wake up call this bunch needed. Legit contenders or fools gold? We'll see what this team is really made of in the NCAAT. Personally, I'd not bet on them. I've said it all season long. I don't trust this team. And....it's March and Barnes also has a history that speaks for itself.Cav lives for days like this.
Lets not get upset about things that haven't happened yetUNC wins. Arizona up 10 at half. On top of that, UK is down 8 with 2 min left. Auburn steam rolled SCjr. As much as it galls me to say it, I think they're peaking at the right time and might make one of those deep runs again. What a gut punch for them to win the SECT and then make a deep run especially if we get sent home early.
