UT to invest millions in campus beautification

I've always thought that Parking garage/"ATM Wall"/ramp entrance monstrosity on Phillip Fulmer Way just north of the stadium looked awful. Seriously, do something with that.

You have not been on campus in long time have you? That whole garage has been demolished in preparation for the new university center. I think it been years since the ATMs were there

No, I was so traumatized the first time I haven't been back.

Freaking awsome!!

I could think of nothing less to do to that structure.

Thank you!
:)

Too bad UT couldn't borrow some land from my campus. Largest and most beautiful campus in the world

Just as a coincidence this announcement is being made while our "yearly" "donations" are due March1st and a lot of the alums have been calling for this for years. I still however cannot calculate the timing versus all of the last 3 moths stating how "broke" we are

Have we slipped to the point of trying to make all the people happy all the time?. let's figure out how we can get our kids through school without hiking their tuition all the time.

Is the University broke? I do not remember them releasing any statements saying they are having trouble?

Yes the Athletic Department has seen a reduction, but they are not the same.

I've only heard that the athletic dept. was broke, pretty sure the school itself isn't.

i love how they want to make it beautiful and spend millions that could be used to put neyland stadium back on top with seat capacity and way better cell phone reception and concessions not to mention touchless bathrooms and a better sound system. but nooo let's make the campus look like a state park or better yet a metropolitan area.

I love how you think that however many home games a year outweigh the daily experience of every student on this campus.

You do know that there's a bit more to getting a degree from UT than going to football games, right? (much as I love home games and all)

yeah but you should not attend a school based on looks. just like when picking a woman to marry looks are not necessarily everything.

I hear that, but when trudging off to that Chem lecture, one of 300 mostly-hungover freshmen that haven't done the reading, it can help to walk through some lovely and well-designed surroundings.

This sure couldn't have been said about the UT I attended in the early 70's! :) (Not the hangover, of course, heck no.)

Are you an alumnus?

With that poor logic, the University should tear down all of the renovations to Neyland. Nobody should be going to a football game and care how the stadium looks.

I'll say this about the buildings. A lot of them wouldn't look so bad if they didn't have 100 AC units hanging out the window. It makes the building look so run-down and shoddy. UT has spent a lot trying to get new buildings (Health center, Haslam Business building and Haslam Music building. It's changed a lot since I've been here (Fall 08). They are tearing down Stokely to build (I think) intramural fields. That's a good move in my opinion. Humanities is such an ugly building as well. Not to mention it stinks.

HSS has recently been renovated, so it's at least nice on the inside now.

Also, the amphitheater there is one of the nicest spots on campus IMO

Yeah it has, but I honestly don't think that does enough to solve the eyesore that it is.

I do think the two amphitheaters next to Humanities and Alumni Memorial building are great touches to the campus. Hopefully there are more spots that resemble them in the future.
