UT Vs. Arkansas Thread

Heard next year after starting off 2-4: "Well....given all the movement to the NFL...the fact that some kids are still working on learning their positions...and we are still developing these young men....we are still working like heck to get better."

Losing our two best linemen and two DB's is pretty bad. We are very thin in those areas. Also, we won't have Marvin Mitchell, who has been solid. I'm pretty worried about our defense next year.

On offense, I don't know if our running game will improve. If not, it could be ugly. We will probably lose our top 3 receivers. The gap between receiver #3 and #4 is immense in my opinion. All that has me worried that next year will not be a great one. I know that sound pessimistic, but I'm trying to be realistic.
Well the recievers looked pretty bad coming in to this year and they did ok. Hopefully we can do the same next year-make trooper own his money.

At WR, we don't know. If Meachem comes back, then he and Vinson would be a mean duo, with Taylor Rogers, Hancock, Briscoe, and Shelley in the rotation. At FB, we bring in Cooper and have Holbert. Hopefully Cooper can be a weapon. At OL, Scott could be the next great LT at UT and McLendon will be 10x the OL that Ligon is.

On defense, I honestly think that a DT rotation of Mapu(with a year back from mission), Bolden, Fisher(with a year in the weight room), Williams, Nelson, Thomas, and any signees will be better than what we had this year. At LB, we should slide Mayo to MLB to replace Mitchell and bring up McCoy. That should be an upgrade, especially since we don't lose any backups and could bring in some studs. At DB, Berry could be a playmaker from day 1 and we get Fellows back from injury. Wardlow will also have another year under his belt, as will Kemp and maybe Gaines.

All in all, we should be better in most areas(WR and DB are the possible downgrades).

Those are very valid worries, and I share them with you. It will depend a lot on the development of McLendon and Co. This where last season's mediocre recruiting class will hurt us. We need help all over. However, I'm not exactly sold on FLorida or Georgia improving all that much next season.

We had better hit the Junior college recruiting hard. IMO.

No way that Ligon is one of our best linemen. He is horrible. He gets no push on the run and has been declining in pass protection. He may be the worst of the starting 5.

If you mean DL, then that is even worse. No way McGlothlin is one of our best. If you mean Harrell, he has been out for a while, so he is already lost. Mitchell will be missed, but not terribly. Mayo is our best LB and McCoy could be a star.

LOL. This is funny. Or scary actually.

We did have a bad class last year, but the one position that we hit pretty good was OL. We need that to step up the most in the offseason.

Mitchell has had a pretty good year. I won't complain about his play at all. I expected to really hurt at MLB after Kevin Simon left.

man I don't think I could take another Vandy loss.We need Ainge for these last 2 regular season games and finish with a 9-3.

I'm not saying Mitchell hasn't played good, because he has. But he isn't our typical MLB. He is too big in our system, Mayo will be a much better fit.

I think your confusing fickle with pointing out with honesty what is wrong with our team.

no, its the fulmer sucks, fire chavis, we wont be on TV comments I'm talking about.

I saw the same game, we have problems with the OL and DL, freshman QB, etc. But we won't win every game every year. Every team gets thier butt woop'ns every year. USC lost to Oregon St. for God sakes, don't see them packing up the program and heading to the hills. Geez. Arky has a good team and beat us bad, but after last year I am not going to complain about much. We have 3 5-6 season, then I will humor the fire Fulmer chants. I'm tired of him loosing these big games as well, but who are we going to replace him with to do a better job?

we haven't won the sec since 98. the L's don't bother me that bad, but fulmer is paid to win sec championships. he just isn't able to get it done anymore.

How about we pull an Ohio State? They hired Jim Tressel from D-II where he had won 2 championships in the last 3 years before going to Ohio State. He's been successful there.
