UT will not get better

I like what Butch has done so far. I like what he is all about. His philosophies have worked with far less talent so why shouldn't it work here.
This board has had so much negativity in the last several years that posts like this are gonna keep happening until they don't.

Rome wasn't built in a day. If you can't get behind your team then find another team to get behind. Only time will tell if CBJ is the solution to get us back. I like the way the players are talking about the difference. I will judge the product on the field come fall. Until then .......try not to screw up the minds of any 2014 prospects with your negativity.

Thanks, JV. I agree with your basic philosophy, and many of your choices.

Count, you are right on the money with the OP. When Butch was hired I said we would very likely be doing this all over again if the problem at the top didn't get fixed...

Well Count, how many of us would have bet the house that Flacco would never make it to a SuperBowl?? And our '98 National Champ team had how many 4 & 5 Star kids? I'm just sayin'...

our NC team had a ton of 4 and 5 star kids. That all they were. Heck, most of em still playin.

The SEC was not as strong when Miles, Urban, and Saban entered. They helped make the SEC what it is today

As far as Sumlin, he is a good coach, but give him more than one year to prove his worth. The sun shines on a moles ass every now and then

Wrong: When Meyer and Miles entered the league:

1. Ole Miss just came off its best season in 30 years
2. Tennessee was just in the SEC title game, their 4th one in eight years.
3. Georgia had three straight top 15 finishes
4. LSU won a national title two years earlier
5. Auburn just went undefeated
6. South Carolina just hired Steve Spurrier.

You guys are digging a hole...

Les Miles @ Oklahoma State
4-7
8-5
10-3
7-5

Nick Saban @ Michigan State
6-5-1
6-6
7-5
6-6
9-2

Kevin Sumlin and Urban Meyer were previously head coaches in CUSA, MWC and MAC

I'm looking at the programs Miles and Saban came from, what is this success you speak of? Miles had 5+ losses in three out of four seasons and Saban had 5+ losses in four out of five seasons. I guess if that qualifies as success then yeah, they were successful.

No one believes we're in LSU's league these day and I guarantee nobody here would have been happy if we had hired a coach from Oklahoma State or Michigan State that had the "success" Miles and Saban had. Florida has a couple of recent championships and they resorted to hiring a defensive coordinator. Some people need to take a step back and realize we're not in position to go out and hire a big time coach, most teams aren't. Not like Auburn has been any better off in their searches and they have as good of facilities and resources as we do. They ended up with a coach that was 2-9 and 3-10 at Iowa State. Even after he gave them a crystal ball, the best Auburn could lure was a coach with one year of head coaching experience in the Sun Belt. Other schools in the SEC have been in better position to hire a top coach and they weren't able to secure one.

People need to give it time and quit acting like we need a superior proven head coach to win. If LSU, Auburn and Florida can't lure one, you're crazy to think it's a given that Tennessee should be able to. When guys like Chris Petersen and Gary Patterson won't leave for much better jobs, that should tell you how hard it is to lure a proven coach. They're staying at small time programs, so of course it's going to be virtually impossible to lure a coach away from a big time program. Give Butch time before you write him off because I'm definitely not seeing this superior success Saban and Miles had before they arrived to LSU.

This is by far the best post on here  All the talk of coulda, shouda, wouda is mind numbing. I am looking forward to this football season more then I have in a long time. One of two things is gonna happen, either CBJ will blow us all away with his coaching ability or he won't. Hope like heck he takes us to the promised land but in the mean time all any of us can do is wait. I honestly dont see how anyone can predict what our season will look like this far in advance. In the interim im gonna wait and let him coach a few games and see for myself what kind of coach he is.
