UTAD cutting band funding/involvement? (Merged)

haven't read the entire thread so SIAP, but if the band is going to play "Send In The Clowns", regardless of who the guest musician is, maybe it needs to have it's role reduced.

For someone who didn't read the entire thread...you pretty much get it.

It's just common to have a ballad In your show and I thought the Stan Kenton show was well done...especially with the guest artist. There has been much worse shows they've done. No one would be criticizing this choice had this whole soap opera not started.

I lol'd boca. Have a like good sir

who is saying that?

Certainly not me. But there were some saying that Ohio's band from a few years ago outperformed the POTS and the rebuttal is that Ohio's halftime act resembled a b-class porn or twerking.

it would be more entertaining than "Send In The Clowns"

You really would be ok knowing your daughter, or son, is being ridden on the 50 yardline of a football stadium, as long as others were entertained? That's wrong, on so many levels.

It was one song and it was their ballad. Good marching shows have pacing. Having an in your face show for the whole show will wear your audience out and disinterest them. I thought it was a good choice. I loved it personally. Not every show is for everyone. I thought that this past weeks was well done. To each their own. Like I said had the band not raised a concern (which is valid in itself. The presentation has been horrid though) then no one would say anything about that show.

What needs to happen is for every mars or carmina burana the band plays, there needs to be a pitbull or Macklemore to contrast it. There's nothing wrong with classics in stands tunes (how many bands play Hey Baby and the crowd love it? The answer is a lot.) they just need stuff that promotes more crowd involvement. It just so happens that modern music is the current in thing for that excluding things like hey baby and the hey song that are stands tunes classics.

YES!

It's like going to a basketball game and the band plays "You Can Call Me Al." That type of song is awesome with a pep band with a base guitar. And it's generationally accepted by the blue hairs and college kids.

It's like I have a degree in music or something... :D

Why does it have to be either? I don't like send in the clowns any more than I like twerking. And my comment had NOTHING to do with the dance team, just with the band and it's music selection

It was the Ohio band that did that, like they do every game. That's the point. I'd rather have a band that represents the University in a positive light than one that degrades itself to entertain a few people.

And, yet again, I agree the band needs to upgrade the folder. However, they have to appease THEIR donors, just like the AD does theirs. The AD pays meal money and travel, but their scholarships come from individual donors. So, unless you've marched, or have a scholarship for a member, you have no place to demand things from them.

Quit putting words in people's mouth and taking things so personally.

That's just arrogant. I can't have an opinion unless I'm financially involved? Who the hell are you to make that determination?

Dr. Sousa has never run through the "T". I have. Have you?

Just another guy from Florida that doesn't respect Tennessee traditions.

Are you implying he was involved in bringing Kiffin here too? So how long has the A Dept been having problems?

I'm implying that your statement on him trying to turn UT into the Cleveland Cavaliers is absurd, because he's been here a decade.
