I remember reading something about Hurd being better on the defensive side but he refused to play defense at the next level (NCAA). IIRC, they said he could've been a beast at safety..

Played it in his last game in high school. Nationally televised game against Josh Malone’s school. Got hurt and missed the rest of the season. Saban lost the recruitment when he insisted Hurd take reps at safety while camping at Bama. Was calling and texting him throughout Signing Day…Hurd wouldn’t respond.

Some of these kids are serious about academics and how they will prepare themselves for life. Football has no guarantee. Just ask Chuck Webb.

In the past we have lost some very good prospects to other schools because of the STUDENT’S interest in taking advantage of academic opportunities. I am hoping that IF he is thinking about academics that we have a desired program.

I think he was losing reps to Browder. This is why I ratchet up fatigue points every time it’s suggested we just convert a QB who isn’t playing into a receiver. Being a pretty good athlete doesn’t trump years spent practicing and repping in a game at a position. The jump between WR and TE is relatively negligible and Nixon couldn’t jump a lesser athlete but better technician imo.
