If you avoid bidding wars, your trenches are going to be awful and you will have poor QB play. If you want that... but you are right, you ABSOLUTELY do have to pick your spots. Nobody has unlimited money, even the ones everyone thinks that do. You have to have a plan and execute it while picking your spots
Pick your spots and go after force multipliers. An elite Edge is a force multiplier on D. An elite MLB can be a force multiplier.
A stud WR. An elite LT.

Those are the types I’d like to see us get competitive with.

what about Gerber multi-pliers?

QB,OL,DL are all equally important in their own right. While a good quarterback is vital, if he doesn’t have a good OLine he is going to have problems. If you don’t have a D line you’re going to get mauled. You should strive to get the very best player at every position that is a good fit for the program. I do not believe in settling at any position. I don’t think we need to be settling for any running back either. We need to get the biggest strongest fastest back with vision that we can get every year. We cannot settle for average running backs. Some folks seem to want to devalue them or act like they are a dime a dozen. Most every year the top teams have strong running backs. The tough yards are important. In general our team needs to get tougher and stronger. That isn’t a knock, I think we had a great year considering youth and being thin at OL and in the secondary at times. I expect us to get better and continue the upward trajectory but we must continue to improve physically and become more disciplined mentally. And we have to develop a killer instinct and hopefully we have a good leader on both sides of the ball emerge. GBO

What is HS star breakdown of all pro backs the last decade? It just SEEMS that due to injury factors and the referenced impact of OL ‘s and defenses that IMPACT of RB’s has diminished and I guess impact is what you are trying to get for the money.

If we see another HERSCHEL or BO then step up, but other than that I would trust my analysis on the affordable field. I am excited about one of our backs of a different body type we have coming in to go with our 2 sophomores. A balanced and diversified stable with wear and tear being what it is seems like a plan.

Bama and Georgia have had success with powerful big fast running backs in the last 10 years. Derrick Henry, Chubb and Sony Michael just to name a few. Scat backs alone won’t get it done. I like our running backs but I would ever shy away from getting the best. And yes running backs are important, you can’t be average speed and you have to be durable. We need all the fast powerful backs we can find. Strong runners like the dude from Arizona St, like the runner from Michigan the year before last. Like Missouri running back that we couldn’t tackle the year before last. I loved garner and Stephens at UT too, but runners like Jamal Lewis, Travis Henry are the types you need as well. GBO

This thread is about Hiter, does he fit the no-brainer pay the BIG bucks mold? Is there one in this cycle?

You would think our rushing offense since Heupel got here would but for some reason it doesn’t seem to work that way.
I agree. Heupel's offense takes 3 star guys and makes them some of the best RB's in the country, plus they don't get worn down here with the back rotation. You'd think that talented backs all over the country would love to play in that system.

I think now, with the landscape, we just probably aren’t willing to spend on a high end back like some other schools will.

Guys want to be drafted in the 1st round. Collegiate production isn't their main goal. It's making money at the next level (and this one now). If we start getting RBs drafted high it'll get recruits attention (as well as paying top dollar). That's what wins in recruiting now. Offering them the best combination of short term money and long term money.

I understand that, but wear and tear too??

Kinda tough to get drafted in the 1st round as a RB being part of a committee. Guys are willing to wait their turn at places like Georgia and Ohio State that have a track record of getting guys drafted high. The key is the kid has to see you getting guys drafted high for them to give you the benefit of the doubt. Once we start getting RBs drafted high then the 5-star recruits will come.

Wow, guess they will all be lining up to go to FSU since they were the firstvschool to have one drafted in the first 3 rounds in 24’.

Edited to add, one snuck by me, TX had one as 14th of 2nd round.
